I was just wondering, if you become Kemetic, do you have to choose a Kemetic name, it's just on some sites and forums, it seems like everyone has a Kemetic name as there username, do you have to take one or something?, is it possible just to use your own name (like for me, using my name, David).
This may sound like a rather dumb or fluffy question, but it's something i'm curious about.
Thanks :).

You don't need to choose a Kemetic name, if you don't want to. In Kemetic Orthodoxy, receiving a Shemsu (Kemetic) name is part of the rituals involved in becoming a Shemsu. Most Kemetic Orthodox that I know use their Shemsu name, but it isn't required. Other Kemetic temples may have different ideas about the need to adopt Kemetic names.

I am Kemetic Orthodox, and was recently named.. that's the name I signed up here as, and had my user name at a few other message boards changed as well. I just really like it.
Before becomming Kemetic Orthodox, I did choose a Kemetic name (Meketheru). It just felt right to do. If it doesn't feel right to you, don't worry about it, it isn't necessary. :)

I signed up here about the same time I started the Beginner's course at the House of Netjer. And it turned out that the name I have reflects my Father regardless of it's not being Kemetic. It's taken on a special meaning to me, so I don't change it.
Even so, I love my shemsu name: Bastmutneheti.

I'm sure you'll be moved to find a name if that's what you're meant to do, if not, no sweat, right?

I use my Kemetic (Shemsu) name in some places, but not others. It's rather long--Nehmetemhethert--so I tend to use the shortened form, Nehmet, most often; it's the name that I use in most ritual situations, Kemetic or otherwise, and also when I dance with my troupe, since it translates to "Dance in joy for Hethert." If you feel you want to take a Kemetic name, by all means do so; or if you join a particular temple, find out about their naming conventions and go from there. Netjer won't like you any more or less for it. :)

I gave myself 2 Kemetic names. On the HON board I am"NefretSeba" (Beautiful Star) [I didn't want a name similar to all the Nisut-named ones] and personally I was "Ankhensenbast" (Her life is of Bast).
I am a Remetj at HON and therefore not named by the Nisut.
For many Kemetic names and name elements check out the thread I posted a long time ago: For those looking for Kemetic names- look no further (http://www.mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?t=97415)

Lingusiticaly I don't think it'd be correct. I don't know about the details of the Kemetic language-- the syntax of it all.
But for personal reasons why not? It have meaning for you and that's what's important. So I say go for it!
