View Full Version : Worried about this Summer.

I live in New England. So I'm very accustomed to alot of snowfall during the winter. So far this year, it's only snowed perhaps three times, and not a whole lot, at that.
Today, it's very warm, bright and sunny...and the birds are all confused. I've heard birds happily chirping in their tree's, that I normally hear in the spring and summer months.
I'm quite concerned, that this summer will be a very "Brown" summer. Very dry, lots of fires, and low water table. Anyone else afraid of this???
As it is, we're probably facing an energy crunch because of all that is going on in the middle east. If our water is low this summer, and we have to conserve electricity more than usual, it could make for a difficult year. And from what it seems so far, forest fires might be happening like crazy this year!
I don't know..Imbolg is coming upon us soon. Usually, I ask for things to be thawing out. This year, I might just ask for more snow!

I live in the North East too and have the same concerns. Everyone I've been talking to about it is concerned as well. Were I live we are surrounded by woods!! the little bit of snow we had is now gone! There are many farms and fields around as well. For Imbolc I will ask for more snow as well!

As usual I just assume Nature knows what she's doing.

Yes..but nature also knows what she's doing when Volcano's erupt, floods ensue, moodslides abound, earthquakes destroy, etc. Nature knew what she was doing in the dustbowl era, too. But it doesn't mean that she didn't hurt, or that the effects of these disasters (not that I'm equating any possible drought we might have, to these disasters...), won't effect lives.
Nature obviosly has it's own plan, that we're not exactly privvy to. However, it doesn't mean that we shouldn't worry about it, prepare for it, or try to send healing energy her way.
I mean..perhaps it's natures way of leveling the playing field a bit...and perhaps if the Earth weren't so overpopulated, less lives would be effected. Perhaps if we all learned long ago, to conserve energy, and protect our resources, or not be so dependent upon fuel, and electricity...perhaps if people wouldn't waste water like they do...we wouldn't have to be so concerned. But..
We're a society very dependent upon Electricity, Water, Fuel, etc. Our homes are built in the middle of tree's which could turn to tinder in a dry summer...if some irrisponsible dope lights a match in the wrong place.
So..worrying about a drought, makes common sense to me. That way, perhaps we can begin to conserve our electricity, water, and fuel now, so that when and if a drought hits, we don't suffer huge blackouts, or raging energy prices, etc. And perhaps, we'll all be a little more mindful of our surroundings, and be careful not to start a fire which could get out of control.
Or..that's the way I see it :)

I have been hearing birds chirping behind my house, something I don't normally hear in winter. It messes up my flower garden, too. The bulbs haven't really had enough time to store up energy and they're starting to sprout because it's so warm. Then when true spring gets here, they've exhausted themselves and I have no blooms. But that's happened before. I subscribe to the theory that Nature knows what She's doing. But if you're concerned, speak to Her!

It was 55 degrees today - very strange weather for Ohio in late January. We've only had one snowfall so far this winter. Quite often there is snow on the ground from Thanksgiving until March.
But, the Farmer's Almanac is predicting a major storm for the northeastern states in early february and also much colder temperatures in the Great Lakes area. But, they also said it was supposed to be snowy and cold in those regions during January.
So....we shall see.

Actually, i didn't even think about that happening. Perhaps the climates changing? If thats happening and this is our "dry season", i don't think we have to worry about any fires ever from beltane to samhain. But I've been in Indonesia during the wet season. Or at least, it seemed like that. It was raining all 7 days.

It's only snowed once here in usually-frigid Wisconsin, & then it only lasted a few days. It was in the 50s F the last two days.
Honestly, it creeps me out. Nature is just laughing up Her sleeve, waiting for us to store away winter clothes, etc.- making us believe we won't need such stuff any more, then WHAM!!!! we'll have two or three feet of snow on easter. It happened 12 years ago, when both my brothers got married. It was in the 60s for the March wedding, & it snowed the day before the May wedding.
I hope Nature waits until the last two weeks of Feb. I'm using up last year's vacation then, & if the weather's crummy, I can hibernate & laugh at the people who do have to go out. I already have a stockpile of chocolate, cheese, & reading material.
Also, as long as Solomon (my p.c.) & the power works...let it snow...or rain...or...

The weather has been pretty screwy here in Canada. We're getting the snow & the cold weather. Back east in Ontario, it's almost Spring-like. They have our weather!
There's concern that if they don't enough snow, it would affect the farms...not enough moisture in the ground & the plants may not do well. I think in the next five years, we're going to see a lot more changes in the ecosystem. Kinda scary.
