View Full Version : Astral Plane?

I am interested in the amount of people here who can actually say they have been "out on an astral plane". In the query, I am also interested in those who actually experience the alteration of matter and energy which allows perception of experience which is outside the limits of matter that some of us were taught about in public school.
If you have never experienced a shift in your experiences to allow a visual "take" of what is outside the realm of normal experience, I am curious as to whether or not you are interested in such an experience.
If interested, but inexperienced, what are you doing to make astral travel a reality? So on and so forth...

A while ago I had a quest to see the astral plane. This was first an idea, and then an omen came to me by the way of a raven's feather that fell out of the sky in front of me.
My first attempt was online with a friend. I started by meditating and grounding and centering. She then asked me to picture a place with endless corridor of doors and to stand in front of one. She then told me to open the door. Being skeptical, at first I didn't think anything would happen. But when I opened the door, it was amazing, like looking into a different reality. The place was so real and surreal that I eventually wrote a poem about it.
I have since then been able to see into what I believe to be the astral plane. Not the world I saw through the door, but the shadowy place that includes that hallway of doors. This world has a strange kind of politics and even stranger inhabitants, but one thing is for sure, I am positive it exists.
Another strange thing I've experienced is a field of what I call soul stones. These represent people in the real world in a globe of energy surrounding each glowing person. If you can somehow enter these globes, you can see into the person's life that it belongs to.

Its actually my specialty. Not that I know all the books and the lore taught in those. But I have practiced AP for probably almost seven years now. I think I first started experimenting when I was 15 and now I'm almost 22 and have learned to AP almost by sheer will.
However in my expereince there is actually very little difference between astral projections or obes and lucid dreaming. Basically what I experience on the "astral plains" is like a dream with substance. While the astral realm seems to behave much like a dream and is just as surreal in my conscious state I am able to interact with aspects of the astral realm as though they were part of reality. I can sense as in touch, see, taste, hear even smell things while on an astral. Light can bend to your will and even be used as a medium of transportation. The astral body itself can behave as though it were a bubble of energy that flows with intelligence in relation to the astral realm and is moldable to my own will. Thus its very easy to change shape, even gender. While sometimes I do percieve the real world there is no way to tell if what I see is that of the real world or just whats in my memory. However I do believe the mind is capable of projecting, kinda like computers can predict, the out comes of certain variables within the reality I percieve. From this can come a variety of wisdom.
My greatest acheivement via the astral athers has been to percieve both my astral self while concsiouly projecting and maintain, at the same time, a fair amount of awareness with my mundane reality. This has enabled me to interact with entities on the astral plains and at the same time people actually around me. Its about as close to bi-location as I think is humanly possible to achieve. Now my actual interaction "between worlds" is mostly limmited to answering questions. In my experiments I've had my sister ask me questions while I interacted with the astral realm. The results where actually pretty suprising.
However when reading over this I am forced to return to the notion that there really is no difference between the astral plains and lucid dreams. When reading over this everything I can percieve on the astral I can percieve equally in lucid dreams. Now others may or may not agree but I think when we astral project we are really traveling a realm of collective consciousness. By entering a trance we allow our concsious ego to be taken back into subconcsious perception and this intredible way of veiwing inner reallities is as vast as the oceans and probably as limmitless as space! This collective concsiousness may not be limmited to just the human psyche but all living creatures. Possibly even off this world and or existing in alternate dimentions. I also think techniques for astral projection are really just ways one can enter a trance and subsequent lucid dream one calls an OBE or AP or whatever else.

Voted: I have never astral planed but would like to
I grew up with the belief of astral travel and other planes, so it's nothing new to me. I just don't think I've ever done it. My mom has, dad has, and sister...but not me and my younger brother.
I'm going to work on it, I got a few books from the library with tips and ways to accomplish it.
ETA: I did have this really odd dream of reading a large golden book on a gold pedistal thingy and it was as if the information was so powerful and great that as I read, I immeditely forgot it, when I woke up the words I saw my mouth moving to in the dream haunted me-- I could see it and myself, but not remember. People suggested it was the Akashic Records or something like that. I'm still trying to get back and remember what I read! So maybe I astral tavelled that one time.

I want to do it, but apparently my mother bound me to my own body (she told me this years ago) and refused to remove it. I want to figure out how to release it myself, I just need to set aside time to do so.

I am not completely sure, but I believe there is going to be a mass astral plane event on Friday. It will be lots of fun, everyone should prepare for it. I am not saying it is the "rapture", but it could be comparable.

I astral plane occassionaly. I used to alot... Since I'm a lucid dreamer, I sometimes astral plane from the dreaming state, and even astral plane back into the dreaming state. So the experience of both traveling in dreams and onto the otherside is quite the experience because what I experienced on the otherside is transended into dream images and I can remember the experience. Sometimes I've astral planed to what seemed like days, but only a half hour in reality... I have so many experiences I could share... but I'll stop there for now. :)

Maybe a better question would be, does anyone here do anything concerning the "inner planes"? I have just recently figured out what they are and am very actively participating in some of the work that goes on to heal these areas.
Does anyone have any input about this??

I can astral pretty much at will, but I only go to "safe" places that I have been before and am comfortable with. Once in awhile, I will be "pulled" against my will, and that really sucks. I'm there, see what's happening, can't do a damn thing about it. Those are the ones that give me nightmares. Don't know how I do it, always been able to - especially growing up, when I had to sit through church. I couldn't tell you anything about what the sermon was about, because I was off somewhere else.

I don't believe in "the astral plane" as a literal place. OOBE may be possible, but I don't think it's near as common as folks seem to think it is. At least not at-will.

I have been to astral plane quite often, but the thing is...I just never know where I am...I am just like "observing" all sorts of different areas atm...its where I go when I fall asleep and when I voluntarily go. It's basically just different realms of "today." I have written down sketches, building names, texts and all matter of the same things. Most of them don't correspond today, because when a descision is made, the future is changed at that moment. So...I think I'm just observing EITHER: the vast possibilities of what "could be" today or just plain another copy dimension of this dimension...not enough studying done to know which, but it sure is fun. >:-)

Whenever I try, it never happens. I often feel like I'm really close and then become tense or excited. Before I know it, I'm "out" of that sensation, if that makes sense.
The only times I've been able to project are by complete accident. Like I'll be meditating before bed, and I'll happen to be laying in bed, and then I realize that I'm floating around the room or above the house. It's always a strange and exciting feeling. I realize that it's real and that I'm actually outside of my body. Then, as soon as I really start to think about it, I get sucked back in.

I walk amidst the mind of God whenever I have need. I have never tried to enter into any "astral plane" but I would guess that what we are talking about is likely one in the same. It is entered in several ways, a traveling down into calm then inward and out, or a traveling up into the chaos of ecstasy then going in and out. Is this like your astral plane?

I have been to the astral a few times but only through my dreams (recognising I'm in the dream-controlling the dream-and seeing the gate to the astral in my dreams.)
I cannot get there through lying down and trying .
My mother in law goes there every morning before she gets up and DF also astral travels .

I have experienced OBE's quite a few times now, but I'm still fairly new to it (around a year or so in) so most of my OBE's have been rather short lived but what I've got from them has been great so far. The more I practice the longer I can stay OOB for :)

Only through meditation and dreamwalking.
I don't even call it astral travel at this point, I'm still only able to view things, not interact or create any change in the astral realm.
Workin' on it, though.

I do it every day if I can, I love it. I have also experienced OOBE's but only when I feel something or stare at something the right way. It doesn't have to be anything in particular either. Like I'll look at a part of something and then everything goes blurry and I'm off somewhere.
I can easily pull myself back in but sometimes it feels good when it happens. Does anyone else do that when they OOB? Just curious to know if I'm the only one. The strangest one I've had is when it happens and I see one of my past lives, pretty cool ^_^.

I dreamwalk a lot and can travel to the astral plane consciously when I set my mind and spirit to it. I've been to various places on the astral plane and can recall a lot of what I have experienced there. Right now, however, I am more concerned with the reality of everyday life rather than my "job" in the astral world and so I only dreamwalk occasionally at the moment.
It just takes up a whole lot of energy to do it consciously because I use a technique which is commonly described as the split-focus one. With this, I can still sense what goes on inside and outside of my physical body but experience the sensations my astral form goes through at the same time. It's quite a lot of fun, however, especially when I can meet up with people astrally and all.

What exactly is the astral plane? To what extent is it just a name for where the imagination is located. Are lucid dreamers travelling in the astral? Are people who dream when they go to sleep travellingin the astral.
Why is it called the 'astral'? has this got something to do with Stars.
When people say things like astral body, emotional body, mental body, what are they actually distinguishing?
This astral malarkey confuses me.

astral is the realm your spirit resides on. quite commonly it's any wavelength that is above the world and it's wavelength on the grand scheme of things.
the higher up in wavelengths you go the purer the energy and the more you become "white light".
emotional body and mental bodies are two different things in different religions lol. i'm not too knowledgeable in them but heard they are in fact something that coincides but unrelated to the chakras. (like a religion instead of using chakras talk about various body forms/shapes.)
and they are "distinguishing" The other realm, where your spirit/soul/ethereal body goes. your sentinent body remains. (although i'll admit, i have on occassion zipped from my bed to standing where my clothes are on the hangers every once in a while. either i moved really really fast or don't remember walking to the clothes hangers those mornings lol.

its a idea personified, people think of it like they think of heaven, its something that they believe exists and yet many cannot tell you the difference between the astrel plan and lucid dreaming, and will argue there not the same thing, and yet have no experience to explain there differences.
the difference between the astrel plane and lucid dreaming is the difference between wearing nice clothes when your going to dinner, and pj's when your staying at home, its two different ways of entering into the same plane.

I haven't astral projected yet either, but it's something I definantly want to achieve. Here's my advice, just continue to work on it and practice, practice, practice.
Here are some good, IMO, guides and info on astral projection:
Witchcraft From the Ground Up (http://web.archive.org/web/19960101000000-20051231235959/http://www.whywiccanssuck.com/learn0.html)- a great course on whywiccanssuck.com. I'd start from the beginning, but if you want, here's the lesson about astral projection (http://web.archive.org/web/19960101000000-20051231235959/http://www.whywiccanssuck.com/learn4.html)
'Journeys Out of Body' by Robert Monroe (http://www.amazon.com/Journeys-Out-Body-Robert-Monroe/dp/0385008619)(I have this, and I haven't finished reading it all yet, as I had to stop to concentrate on my essays, but I'm going finish it off soon, it's quite a cool book, if you'd like I can send you a link where you can download it).
Also, Cantrap (http://www.cantrap.net/)has a lot of cool and great info (again, IMO). Here's their astral projection guide (http://www.cantrap.net/technique/project.html) and here (http://www.cantrap.net/technique/ap.html) (you might want to go to section on magical techniques (http://www.cantrap.net/technique/technique.html), to get more ideas on how to begin (meditation, etc) and other cool magical ideas.
Hope this has helped, and good luck :).

I've been reading about Astral Projection many times, and started and stopped trying it many times either. If i have succeeded, then I don't remember. I really want to, but i feel i'm just not mentally neither physicaly ready. That's one of the reasons that i'm in a CoT to try to control myself a little better so I can try this experience.
Does it make any sense?........

yes. Although I have not had a successfull Concious OBE yet, I have woke up from sleep to find myself out and about 3 or so feet away from myself only to be snapped back and woken up once I realised I was out.
The key is to stop trying and just let it happen naturally. Sometimes if we focus too much on trying then it is a distraction and can stress you mentally.
Relaxation and breatheing exercises are important, as is the grounding and raising of your astral shield before you even think about letting your astral self wander about.

I project on occasion. It's something I'm still new to, but I've been to the astral plane a few times and to the plane of fire once. Yes, the plane of fire. I even talked to an elemental. I've noticed that the astral plane gets colorful according to my perception when I release my excess energy and send it there. Almost like some of the computer art I do.
Please do tell me if this is wrong according to someone else's views. I'm only saying what I see.

I think Astral Plane is such a abused term. I believe most people prolly have not traveled past the Etheric plane. An OBE is Ethneric. The Ethneric plane much like the Ethneric body is the closest to the physical realm as more of a part of a paralell universe. I could write a book on this so I will just be brief. Also I am going to spare the details between the upper and lower of these planes. I do feel that a middle Astral is a achieveable I do not feel that an upper or lower Astral is until crossover. Point being if it resembles the Physical even loosely it is probably the Etheric. This is purely based on my own findings.

I did once. I don't know why I haven't tried again since because it was so enjoyable.
I was on my commuter train on a gray, cold day and bored to tears. So I planted my two feet firmly on the floor, grounded and meditated and I decided to visit the Bahamas. Before I knew it, I was in beautiful warm sunshine, standing on a white-sandy beach watching turquoise water lapping at the sand. The sun's warmth was so strong. As I was coming back, I could feel the sand on the train floor under my boots. What was weird was the woman seated next to me started looking at the floor w/a look on her face like she was seeing the sand. My face still felt warm so I looked in a mirror, and my face was reddish. I believe I had sunburn. :bigredgri
