You can read here and there some on honoring house & land wights but I wondered if anyone would like to walk us thru what you do exactly.
What types of things do you set aside for you house wights? Stones, statues, trinkets etc
How do you go about giving them offerings, what do you feel they like most and what do you like to say when doing so?
Does giving them offerings and speaking to them make your house or land feel different than before you started honoring them?

i like to leave honey-water in a bowl outside on this boulder we have in the garden, and then hope the wights find it before the dog does. :hehehehe:
actally, the "proper" way to do that would be to gouge a hole in the boulder, (with a hammer and chisel i suppose) and leave the offering in that. yeah, that's somewhere on my endless to-do list.
anyway, i must admit i've never felt any change or presence from doing that, i guess my wights are shy.
the one thing i did feel was last year on april 30, the day before may 1, i harrowed my whole house in every corner with a bunch of woodruff (which is THE may herb of these here parts) which i dipped in a bowl of water blessed by moi, and then sort of flung it out in an algiz (protection rune) shape. hard to explain, i hope that was more or less clear.
the change was significant, the air felt clearer, shadows seemed less dark, and the whole place felt... smiled on, for want of a better word.
i am annoyed that i didn't do it this year. :eyez:
at yule i leave cake and beer out for berchta/holda, but then, she isn't really a wight as such.
then, last but not least, whenever i need a special kind of wood for my crafts, i try to find what i need on the forest floor, cause there's always branches lying around. but sometimes i need to cut a branch off a tree, so then i make sure i seal the "wound" properly, as well as leaving something at the base of the tree, just in case it's a favourite of some wight i haven't met yet. these "peace offerings" are usually a few tiny gemstones and/or some scraps of gold leaf in a pouch, along with a bowl of honey-water, sometimes beer or wine.

Mothwench, Yes I have read of using a boulder with a well type spot in it that holds the offering. So do you have anythig specific you like to say when giving offerings?
I would like to please my Disir also, make my home a place that they may feel drawn too, safe and cozy. I ordered this book yesterday that may help me in this area.....

actually, no i don't. i'm not very ceremonially/ritually inclined. i'm trying to work on that, though... i have a feeling that whispering something in alliterative verse would be proper, with emphasis on letters that are benign in a runic sense... like w/v or g.
spontaneous example:
gifts are made in good will and gratitude
wights watch over this home
guard the hearth, give your glow
when darkness wanders in

yes, the disir, or idisi as i call them. they are definately in my ancestral tradition, because they are mentioned in the merseburg charms. i've been interested in celebrating them for a while, but i'm still a bit shy about it, especially as to when to honour them. there are several different dates to celebrate disablot, and i can't make up my mind about what feels right. maybe i should just stop thinking so much and just honour them any old day. i used to do this, but then went all scholarly. now i tend to over-analyse everything.
do you celebrate disablot, if so, when? I'd be interested in hearing what that book of yours says. :kooky:

I'm not a ceremonialist either.
I'm still new to Heathenry (just hitting my 1st year) so I haven't really celebrated much of anything. No groups where I'm at so till we move in a few months I'm all alone.
Here is a link to a review on northvegr for my book. It was recommended to me by someone on asatrulore.org

Hey mothwench, my 3 new books are here and I've read 2 of them already. Still want the info on the idisi? And although I've only been giving offerings to my house wights for a week I've noticed a change here a little. I asked them to put my husbands lost watch somewhere we could find it and it worked. It was under the couch somewhere we always find lost things and he had looked there a few times already.
Also someone keeps partly unraveling the tp in the main bathroom. I fix it and several times a day it's unraveled when I know no one was in there and theres no breeze.
All I did was set them their own spot on the fireplace mantle, got a old chamaigne glass and put gemstones, sea shells, a gold yr 2000 $1 dollar coin (polished) and some other tiny offerings in it and I've given them milk, honey & a fresh rose a few days to put in the glass. Now all my teacup roses are drying up so I don't see them fit for offerings anymore.

yes please! :) specifically, i'd like to know what it says about disablot and when it should be... i've found so many different dates for it on the net, which gets confusing.

:hmmmmm: they like to have a good laugh, those naughty wights.

Living Asatru only says mid February
In Hammer of the Gods which is specifically on A-S Heathenry is says Yule.
Timelessmyths.com says: The sacrifices were held some time between around the end of autumn and the beginning of winter.
Heres a link on Northvegr on it:
http://www.northvegr.org/northern/book/disir.php
And Irminsul.org says: Held at winter nights.
I keep finding anywhere from Autumn to Feb.

thanks for liking my poem! :kooky:
well, i sure hope the wights aren't afraid of the dogs... if anything, it's the other way round, especially where lucky is concerned. :hehehehe:

maybe that's why she always tries to run off in the woods -- the wights are trying to visit you and they scare her away!
