View Full Version : In building a house...

I am not building at the moment, but my family is discussing plans. I'm sure much of it will be wood, and some will be stone, as well as other things. I'm not exactly sure if this is a stupid question...but it's been in my mind for a while, so I thought I'd just ask.
If one wants to build something out of wood, like if I want to make something....is it better to go buy the wood or go cut down a tree and replace it with a sapling. I mean...I have to get the wood somewhere, but I am not sure I'd know what to say to the tree if I were to cut one down. Is anyone following me here? I know people that cut trees down for their balefires all the time, however....they don't sit and try to talk to the trees. I do.
I ::cough:: feel guilty about wanting to chop something down that is so alive. Soooooooo how does one go about facing an issue like this. And, how do y'all work with wood. I mean, it's pretty impossible to build something without natural material.
And, then....same goes with stone. I mean...do they mind? If so...must I ask their permission? In that way, should I ask an animal permission before I kill it? ::cough:: What if it says no?
Am I going batty? You can say yes if you think so. ::sigh::

Hehe, well that's one option....but even in building a shed or something, I still wonder. Just a thought...perhaps I'm mad.... lol

There are building blocks made from recycled plastic for building sheds.

LOL..shyhawk, it's just that if you feel guilty about it, or feel that it is wrong in any way, then IMO..you should try to find a way around it...

I personnally see no problem in using wood. That's the Oregonian in me speaking. I say go ahead and use wood. That is what our ancesters have used since time unknown. Just be sure to give thanks where it is due when the time comes.

Peace,

Just give thanks...that'll work.
(cough) I was just being thorogh. :D I guess it just reminds me of the question, if a tree has a voice (of sorts) when you turn it into something else, does it still have a voice. Like, can you bond with a rocking chair same as an Oak tree?
I'm almost sure I am just not making any sense to y'all. LoL I think I'll get some rest.8O

I look at it as part of surviving...the cycle of life. Carnivores eat other animals. Herbivores eat plants. All animals need homes. We're no different in that sense. As long as we're not taking & wasting what we take, it's ok to build your home from wood, take stones from the ground. I look at it as everything - even all manmade objects come from this earth. All the original materials used in synthetic materials all come from this earth in one form or another. As Twig said, give thanks when the time comes.

Yep..that's how I feel. But..if shy felt guilty about it, for whatever reason, she should just try to find a way around it, as perhaps those guilty feelings might create a little negativity during the house building :)
