Okay which is better, and which in the long run do you think will be cheaper?

well, store bought ones are faster and easier. and homemade ones take more time, but you can do with them what you want. either way, you have to spend money. by prefabricated cards costs ya, and buying the materials to make homemade ones cost ya. then you have the stamps on top of it all. homemade whould be more personal i think. homamade will probably be a bit cheaper, but time consuming at the same time. so i dont know. do whats in your best interest!:)

We had someone here from this site design ours. We printed them ourselves.
I can not recommend Silverstard more highly.

She's extremely professional and very talented lady.

Well we've got the printer and so forth. Black and white only, but with the paper I've selected it won't matter. I've just got to get to the shops.

I plan on getting the supplies this Monday/Tuesday ... and hopefully making the trip to my parents by Saturday, in order to have them ready to be mailed by Monday 5th June.

I ended up doing mine myself, with my printer. Bought the paper AND a new printer for less than the quote I got from a few places for much nicer looking invites.

It is just the time that really hurts... up to you if you have the time to do it yourself or not :)

I bought lovely acid free recycled green card stock on-line for about $50 with matching colored envelopes. On-line are lots of invite templates, so you have everything done properly for that snooty judgemental person every family has.. I designed them to be halved A-4 sheets folded once. I got a poem my husband loved on the front, so it was REALLY personal. I used work's paper cutter after hours and printer. (The blind eye was a little wedding present to me) At a craft store I got a stamp with oak leaves (my husband's last names means 'from the oaks' ) and a silver stamp pad (under $20) and stamped each invite on the front beside the poem then stamped the enveolpes to match.(1 or 2 evenings in front of the TV doing the stamping) All up, 200 invites, deeply personal, and proffesional quality for under $75.

I was completely pleased with the result, I'm appalled at what some wanted to charge. no regrets here on DIY invites.

Well I've decided to make them, getting the remaining supplies today ... and sometime this week, I'll visit my parents in order to print them (have yet to purchase a printer)

I got married like 8 years ago but I did mine myself and it gave them that extra feeling of sweetness when they turned out so well. When people asked where I purchased them I was very proud to say I made them myself. Good luck!

speaking of wedding invites, what's the etiquette on when you send them out? A month in advance? two months? A few weeks?

i did them 2 months in advance
otherwise u find that it clashes with major events

I'm planning on getting mine out no lately than 2 weeks time. As I'm setting the RSVP date as 1st August.
