This is a very interesting article, talking about growth hormones, rate of twins and more.

part of the story

Over the last 30 years, the number of twin births has nearly trebled. This rise seems to have followed the introduction of in vitro fertilization and a preference for having children later in life. But in the mid-1990s, doctors began limiting the number of embryos transferred in the course of in vitro fertilization and still the proportion of twin births rose. Now new research seems to show that bovine growth hormone in the food supply may be responsible. Using data obtained from mothers by way of questionnaire, physician Gary Steinman of the Long Island Jewish Medical Center and his colleagues compared the number of twin births from moms who consumed meat and/or milk and those who consumed no animal products at all. They found that the omnivores and vegetarians were five times more likely to have fraternal twins than the vegans.

Glad I never had that side effect (twins)!:yikess: One at a time is plenty for me. :farmerjoe

But I wonder if that can be contribituded to my having only one ovary, being 46 and menapause is no where in sight yet!!! I am tired of being fertile, and having my visitor every month like clock work. I am done having kids I want my menapause!!!http://2ni2.com/emoticon/special/botando.gif

All the woman in my family had at least the start of menapause by the time they were 46, and they had both their ovaries!! But no, not me. My hormone levels are...normal8O....for a 30 yr old!! :awilly:

Well or the research into how MANY pregnacies start out as twins, one dies, and the other lives and is born as a single birth. BUT gosh with those numbers so high, and only counting the births (in this study)...makes ya wonder what the real numbers are...

My brother started out as a twin, but the second baby died young in the womb. One ultra sound there were two little blobs, later on there was only one bigger blob. My mom was 40 when she got pregnant with him. I don't know if she ate or drank dairy or not. But that's an interesting study... :)
