Merry Met
I have a question which I am hoping that you can answer for me.
My husband and i have had wiccan leanings for a while in our beliefs, but in the last 2-3 months have been exploring about wicca. We are now reaching the stage where we feel comfortable about attempting rituals. All the books and websites that we have visited all give us different requirements for the ritual tools we need, i am aware that we can make do for most things but i was wondering if you can tell me the tools you cant live without?

My other questions are can my husband and i share tools? or do we need seperate tools? Does the athame have to be of a certain metal? or can it be wood? What of the wand? does it have to be crystal? or can we make one from wood?

We do not belong to a coven, and dont know of any near where we live, but if we are practicing together can we be called solitary practitioners?

thank you for your help
blessed be

Personally, I feel that the only "must have" is yourself & a desire to comunicate with your deity. Everything else is just extra. I don't believe that the Goddess will not listen to you if you don't have just the right athame. Or the wrong colour candles. Or whatever else. They represent whatever you want or believe them to be.

In my opinion, I think it would be so great to be able to share your ritual tools. Think of the love & energies that the two of you combined would have! Maybe even think of making some of your tools together. Infuse them with both your energies. Even if it's as simple as lighting a candle together.

I have no tools that are absolutely necessary.

Any spec's for tools only apply if you're part of a coven or specific group of Paganism.

I have a woodhandled double-bladed athame, a metal wand tipped with a translucent black marble at one end (grounding) and a chunk of amethyst at the other (focusing), candles for quarters and for the God and Goddess, incense for air, candle for fire, a quartz for earth, and water for water. These are be cause I like them, more then I ever use them or need them they place me.

When it comes to tools someone is going to say "you have to have this and this". Well, no. No you don't. Not unless your coven specifies. Use what is comfortable; what you can find or make; what pleases you; or nothing at all.

You might search the web to see what other people use.

The Greatest Tool you can have is your mind. You can't really do anything without it.

All the other things, like Athames and Wands are focusing tools. They are there just for that, focusing. They don't have any special power except the power you pump into it.
