1st - and probably best - ritual ever

I have been studying wicca for over a month, and i am really confident with it and i know that it is for me no matter what, so last friday I was over at my friends house for the weekend, and we did an awesome ritual, even though we didn't do the steps in the right order and we kept forgetting to do things, i reassured her that it didn't matter, the gods had a sense of humour too, so we made a few jokes and it was really fun. We felt really close to each other and to everything around us. There were three of us there, and it lasted for about 3 hours.
The weird thing was, that after the ritual, My friend Hannah said that when we had called the quarters, she didn't feel as secure and "happy" as she had been before. I don't know why, maybe she was a bit scared, it was all of our first rituals, we got 3 silver candles for phychism, 3 purple for spirituality and 3 white for friendship since we didnt have brown. We carved our names and "friendship forever" into the candles and personalised them too. Then we talked to spirit. It was great.
Any suggestions for next time? I had to take my wicca book into the circle with us so that we could follow the steps since neither of us had done a ritual before. But We definitely personalised our ritual, and did what we wanted to do, including the steps such as "casting a circle", "calling the quarters" and "thanking spirit".

Don't worry about taking your book (or notes) in to the circle to refer to that is just fine. And you are right it is good to relax and smile. I personally have found that very, very few things have to be done in a exact order or way. AND that personalizing what you have and your intention is more important.

Can I ask what your ritual was for, and do you think it was successful? Was there anything to measure how you did?
