Morning sickness:
To prevent:
Avoid low bloodsugar as this brings on nausea; eat small, frequent meals, rich in protein.
Walk a mile a day, to prevent the build up of nausea causing hormones in the body.
Increase your iron and vit.B-complex intake (esp. B1 and B6). 10- 20 mg a day.
Eat unsalted crackers or dry toast, before getting out of bed.
Get out of bed SLOWLY, avoiding sudden movements or sitting up fast.
Avoid greasy and spicy foods.
Drink a cup of Anise and/or Fennel seed tea when you wake up and before getting out of bed.
Add one teaspoon of apple cider to 8 ounzes of warm water and drink, first thing in the morning.
To combat (in order of increasing strength- start off with the mild ones, before moving on to the stronger ones!)
Fresh air- open the window or go outside. It can do wonders. Think of something other than the nausea, as thinking of it makes it worse. watch TV, read or talk.
Rasberry leaf tea- sip 1- 3 cups throughout the day.
Tea made from dried peach leaves.
Sip Peppermint or Spearmint tea throughout the day.
Ginger root tea.
Wild Yam Root tea, sip throughout the day.
B6 vitamin 25 mg x 3 daily.
Ginger root capsules (250 mg x 4 daily).

That is an understatement. You might also want to link in the threads in the greenroom on this topic. You can post links to them after a search. :)

Nothing comes up with a search on "morningsickness", "morning sickness" nor "nausea"...........

If you can't keep fluids down for more than 24-48 hours call your Midwife/OB.
If you can't take the dry cracker thing I found Jello as effective at calming the stomach.
Low fat, high protein foods are your best friends too, but don't think that you can have broth like you would in normal nausea, it doesn't work and can make matters worse, besides instant broth is VERY high in sodium.
Last but not least, 24hrs of IV fluids may well make you feel like a new woman! Seen it hundredsof times.

...I am 5 months now and I have had morning sickness since week 8. It still doesn't let up and I have tried all of those remedies, plus the medicine my doc placed me on for anti nausea. Nothing is working. I lost a pound since my last visit to the doc, which was 4 weeks ago.

I know what that is like not having anything work. My second full tmer pregnancy was horrible I could keep nothing down, and the Diclectin I was put on only helped with certain things. I think I lost 8 pounds before things settled and I started gaining again.
NebtAnhai I hope things settle for you soon. :hugz:

It's been many years since I've been pregnant, but with all of my pregnancies I was sick from conception to birth. It was so bad that my doctor had even prescribed anti-nausea medication just to keep me out of the hospital. The only thing I ever found that helped with morning sickness was peppermint candies. Too bad I didn't find out that tid bit until my last pregnancy.

I second the recommendation for peppermint candies. I had morning sickness throughout my pregnancy with my son, the only thing that helped settle my stomach was peppermint candy. You want to make sure that your still eating right, but when you need them they are a great help and handy.
I actually had to apologize and share the news when I was sitting in my daughter's speech class and rattling the wrapper around trying to get it opened quietly. lol

Oh, one more tip..eat before getting in the car if you find yourself getting car sick. Something I wish during my first pregnancy someone would have told me before I suffered through until I figured it out on my own.

Just have to get in on this conversation. I'm 6 months pregnant right now and my baby girl just turned 1 so I was pregnant with her none to long ago LOL. With both I was throwing up everyday at LEAST once until 4 1/2 months and still every once in a while after that. During those first 4 months, I would throw up all day everyday whether I ate or drank or not unless I took Diclectin which is the pregnancy safe anti-nauseant. Sometimes I did that anyways.
None of the natural or normal remedies helped, ginger, crackers etc... When I'm not too bad (after the 4 1/2 month mark, I found salt and vinegar chips of all things helped sometimes but not always.
If you are experiencing nausea and vomiting ( I won't call it Morning sickness because you are rarely only sick in the morning) I feel for you. Try these ideas but if they don't work, talk to your OB/Midwife and don't be afraid to try Diclectin, it's safe.

I am going on 10 weeks (2 1/2 months), and for me I throw up first thing in the morning. I dont even have time to eat anything, and even if I eat something dry, it doesnt always help.
Honestly? I found that throwing up first thing in the morning makes me feel better instantly! I throw up stomach juices at the most. Nothing solid. Then I feel better! So wierd...
I DO get nausia during the day though, just randomly, and it sucks. Sometimes no food helps. Nothing. Like right now LOL
Several times I've found that a cold coke would help. Not the whole thing, but a few sips can sooth my tummy (Maybe its the sugar? The refreshingness? I dont know).
I also found that eating half of what I used to eat in a meal helps prevent nausia after eating. I usually just wrap up the rest of my meal and eat it later. I learned the HARD way that eating a full meal like I normally would is not going to work and will come up back...
Also, dont get up very fast when you're laying down! Dont run to much or do quick physical activity like chase around your cat and play. That might make your tummy go wild (again, I learned this the hard way...).
Thats my advice so far! I hope it helps someone out there :)

I agree too. It does make you feel better. I'd have to throw up at least once and then sit and not move while nibbling crackers till I was okay enough to take my pill (Diclectin) and then I had to stay totally still for another 40 minutes for it to work. Then I had to eat a small meal. If I didn't do it this way, I'd vomit the pill back up.
Occasionally even with the pills but everyday without them I would throw up every 15-30 minutes without fail no matter if I ate or drank something or didn't, crackers or not, moving or not, didn't matter. I'd throw up every last thing in my stomach including bile and then throw up more. By mid day it was gaging on nothing which hurts SOOO much that I'd eat or drink JUST so I wouldn't be throwing up nothing.
Now that I'm at 6 months I'm not on the pills anymore like I said in my post but I still get nauseous at least once a day even if it's for a short time and throw up in the mornings about once every 2 weeks.

I second the potato chips! They've been very helpful for me so far.
Also - and this may sound weird, cheddar cheese and crackers tends to help when I'm feeling a bit queasy. Or cheese and pretzels.
Drinking orange juice and lemonade has seemed to settle my stomach as well.
Also - those Preggie Pop things are wonderful.
My nausea has been mild, though (knock on wood!).. so what was good for me may not be good for everyone.
