You can use votives if you know ahead of time that you won't be around as the candle burns.
Snuffingout the candle and reusing it for the same puposes is not a problem, so don't worry about that!

I have heard that if one is performing candle magick which will be over a period of time, it is acceptable to extinguish the candle and relight it every day, rather than allow it to burn unattended. One would simply repeat one's intent when lighting or snuffing the candle. However, I read somewhere recently that a candle used in magick is to be used only once, then extinguished and buried.
Is there a right or wrong way to do this?

I think the only right answer to this question is "what do you feel is right?"
Magick is all about doing what is right for you, and what works for you.
I personally let candles burn all the way down, and if they have to be left unattended, I put them in the bathtub.

Thanks!! I was using a fairly small candle, relighting it every day til it was gone, and buried it today, since I won't be needing it any more. I got that new job I wanted, finally!!
