I've been very interested in Erin for a while mainly because we share the same name :hahugh: There isn't much info out there on her that I've been able to find I know that she is a daughter of the Dagda, Ireland is named after her, she's a queen of the Tuatha Da Danann and she was married to Lugh. I'd love it if someone could give me some more info on her maybe some rituals, her symbols or animals that are for her. Thanks

Well, formstarters, She is the Titular-Goddess of Ireland. Something that I've always found strange is the HM Hennessey, in his article, The Ancient Irish Goddess of War quotes a passage from Insular narrative literature in which She shape-shifts into a badb, but he draws no conclusions from this evidence! I am convinced that this would also make Eire a Name of The Morrighan, who is also the Mother-Goddess and Earth-Goddess, Anu.

There is also evidence which suggests that Anu as Dannan, and Danu. There is also evidence which supports that Brigid is Danu. There is also no actual evidence which refutes any of these "theories", merely different shades of the quality of evidence.
Can we thus conclude that Brigit is Morrighan, which is Erin? How about they are all one Goddess, and they have different personalities, and, dare I say, even give birth to themselves? Its a complicated matter with no certain and determinate evidence. :)

Thanks. :boing: I found a book today at the book store on Celtic myths and it had some more info on her. Her symbol was a shamrock and anything realated to Ireland really. I might have to get the book when I get more money.

How about They are all different Goddesses?
I am a polytheist, and I believe that the Deities are Who They are, each and every one. It is humans who imperfectly understand Them, insist on conflating Them, try to assign Them different roles.............
In the Here-and-Now, Erin is the Soverignity of Ireland. In the ElseWhere, I assume she does other things/has broader interests but She interacts with people as the Nationhood of Ireland; kind of a large genius loci:

much like but oppositional to Britiannia.
Who are we to intrude on the other, private parts of Her existance in a forced sharing??
What to do:
Reading Irish history,
supporting the organization trying to replant and preserve bog oaks in Ireland,
learning to make soda bread from scratch,
eating dulse,
practicing telling traditional stories,
singing revolutionary songs ................
that is, preserving the culture and supporting the nationhood.
*goes off singing*
Give Ireland back to the Irish
Don't make them have to take it away.
Give Ireland back to the Irish
Make Ireland Irish today.

Trust me mate, I know that they are all individuals. I am just pointing out how the "evidence" (mythological epic poems/texts written ages ago, changed multiple times by various religious sects, and then translated by various people) can be seen/read/understood in many other ways.
BTW, did you get all the info you wanted, IsauraStrider?
Cheers,

Seems like Erin has been working overtime... She has recently sparked up an intrest within me as well!
While I've studied her a bit in the past, she has never tickled my soul as she does now.
Maybe she's seeking a few new worshipers to play with? LOL
