Karma is kind of like the cosmic retribution to a person based on previous action, experience, or lifetime. Karma does not always act out immediately or even in the current lifetime. One's actions in this life may affect future lives. Kind of like a "you get what you dish out". It is believed that the consquences of your actions are inevitable. All the checks & balances are recorded in the Akashic records. These are the 'records' of all actions & thoughts that have or will occur.

There's a couple of threads discussing Karma floating around. You might want to read those too.

Hinduism believes in karma and reincarnation where as Buddhism didn't, Buddhism was about getting rid of your desires and off the cycle of reincarnation. Karma is the belief in what you do in this life determines what you become in your next life. In the beginning if you did your jobs you were assigned you were advanced in a higher social class.

Karma has become a kaleidoscope for me! :ahhhh:

One of the more common applications of Karma that you will see in pagan communities is the "law of three." in other words, whatever you do, it will come back to you times three (as in three times stronger/more/etc)

...but after a while, you recognise it. I'm a firm believer in the law of three - I'm currently enjoying the karma I'm receiving from a very painful decision I made. It can happen immediately (like my current experience) or in your next life.

karma isnt just for the next life (i.m.e.) things u do on a daily basis can receive karmic retribution on a daily basis...ex: i lied to my bio prof. and then i failed a test in another class. this is just my opinion tho... the three fold law is the "standard karma" idea for wiccans.

I think of "karma" more as the Ripple Effect. What you send (energy- physical, mental, or magickal) ripples through the universe, affecting other persons or things. Much like the ripples you see in a lake when you toss in a stone. Eventually this ripple may return to you personally, then again, it may not. Each situation is different, all energy is sent for different reasons, at different times, and affects different people and things. All actions do not, in my opinion, bring on a "threefold law," however some situations might. Every situation is different and will have a unique affect on things.

It is the therory ( yeah right, theory ;) ) that what you do to or wish on others will come back to bless or haunt you depending on your original intent.

Case in point. A person stole my ceremonial dagger from my alter a few years back. When I next heard of her (months later), she was in jail for Theft, burglery and breaking&entering. (here comes the good part). While there, someone stole her car and everything in it!!!.

Hope that helps.

That's so funny, Twig! Excellent example too. I agree with you....that original intent is the issue. Very good point.
