As i've mentioned in numerous threads, I'm doing family tree research, and I was given the name and number of a Family Branch still living in Ireland, today. I was supposed to call to get more information about the family. I called last week, and pretty much sounded like a blathering idiot. I was very nervous, not well prepared, and the whole "accent" thing got bungled. The contact speaks with a heavy irish brogue, which kinda throws me off, because I have to listen very carefully to decipher everything that she is saying, and of course, she has the same problem with my American Accent, and terms.
I'm supposed to call again today, for more information, later in the morning. And I'm nervous, for whatever reason. I don't want to screw this up. I want to make sure I get as much infomation as possible. And, I don't want to come off as too pushy, or anything, either.
Please wish me luck, and send me energy for courage, and maybe a little "Graceful" energy if possible!
Thanks!

LOL...thanks for the offer..but..i'd have to give you a ton of info, and a looooooooong list of questions. LOL.
I'm normally pretty good with people, and with speaking, myself. But..when I'm excited and nervous, it's a whole nother story.
Oh well..I'm calling in a few minutes...so..here it goes!

Good luck! (You'll do fine.)
Could this mean a trip to Ireland for you?
If so, you'll love it! They must hide the ugly men during tourist season. I didn't see any, although I was assured they do exist.
Cute guys, Guinness....*sigh* kinda like going to heaven without having to die first.

Good luck. Don't worry about the accent thing. Just tune your ears in, so you can listen carefully. I wouldn't worry about sounding pushy or anything. People love to chat about their histories and culture. really. I took some cultural classes. For one of the projects, I had to learn about a culture that was not my own and interview a person from that cultural group. I was so nervous. However, I found out quickly that people love to teach people new things and realize that our differences make us unique in a special way. So just take a deep breath, so you can get the information that you need.

Thanks guys! It worked well. This time, I slowed down a bit, and got all of the information I wanted, and more! There didn't seem to be such a communication problem, this time around. And it was a really great experience.
Oh..I wish it meant a trip to Ireland for me. But at least I'm sure that if I ever did get to go, I'd have family to visit. It would be more like "Coming Home", then Going abroad :)
