Trying to find stone info on Bipolarism. i know of at least two people who have it. so far it's under control and from at least one has positive outcomes with pink kunzite. Any stones should they avoid or use. just curious.

1) proper medical help.. this is a biggie because doctors, at times, tend to over medicate for this. If they are not continually tested things can get out of hand fast. Medication needs to be altered regularly as thier condition can fluctuate.
2) Whatever minerals you use for 1) balancing emotions and 2) calming emotions work great. Working on aligning the chakras works for some as well if they are familiar with this system. Lastly... some say accupuncture. I try and stay away from any minerals which in my work re-inforce emotional extremes. Outside of this you may want to address the energies which surround them at home and at work. If at all possible they should be surrounded with a grounding/harmonizing energy as much as possible.
What has proven true for me in regards to this work is that the work should be focused on opening the energy system of the body to ensure a free flow as much as possible. From a metaphysical perspective the energy flow to the brain is not balanced and blockages are caused which influence the emotional stability of the individual. In a lot of cases this can be directly linked to the energy flow between the brain and the heart. Whatever system you use try and focus on this energy and removing any blockages but above all.. as said above... make sure the person has good and consistant medical care.
Lastly.. make sure that someone close to him/her follows through to ensure appointments are kept. People with this tend to miss appointments due to the illusion all is well and getting better and at the other extreme.. will at times go to several doctors trying to get more medication which they think will help balance them more when in effect all it does is make thier body more dependent on the medication. These last things only happen to those who have seen this condition progress more and more over the years but I have seen the results of this first hand and its something that can be easily avoided if someone ensures the individual recieves consistant professional attention.

of course doctors etc. no argument here
as for stones
go with ametrine, unakite, blue lace natural agate, sardonyx/onyx which is white and black, not the brown including
amber might be helpful
agate and black tourmaline also
i wouldnt use: lapis, pyrite, hematite, ruby, garnet,
saphire with caution
kunzite is a great idea, as is hiddenite
rosequartz tends to provoke unwanted reactions with bi-polars
ps. more in PM

:fpraise: Thanks so much for starting this topic lightdragon *hugs* (yep, surprise surprise I actually decided to check out MW tonight!), and thank you Wolfsong and CzechWoods for your helpful information too.
One thing I have learned is that bipolar is a journey that is different for everyone who suffers from it, and everyone has their own way of coping. I used to be over-medicated, but now I am not on anything at all and I'm managing just fine (keeping in mind that I am only 21 and was only diagnosed at age 19). The most important things for me are getting enough sleep and exercise, and eating well. I also have to watch my stress levels, and when a "trigger" comes along, I do something from my "what works" list.
Anyhoo, back to the topic of crystals/stones/minerals... any crystals that help me sleep are a plus. For me that includes smoky quartz and amethyst. I love pink kunzite and blue lace agate! I didn't know that "rosequartz tends to provoke unwanted reactions with bi-polars"... I have always loved rose quartz and I haven't noticed that it makes me unwell! Maybe it does make me psycho and that's WHY I love it! LOL, that'd be right. I'll have to be careful with it then.

rosequarz tends to blurr everything into a shiney happy people mood, and thus makes you believe everything is fine, while it may not be. the awakening is even harder than, and will make you suffer more. so rosequarz tends to cover your true state, and thus make it harder to live, cause the edges will be rougher.
if it makes you go psycho, even more caution is needed, of course.
not everything, that makes us fgeel good is necesserily good for us

This is one of the reasons I started this topic so Gemmagic would know what to avoid. thank you Wolfsong and CzeechWoods:lookwhats

It will depend on the person.
I'm bipolar, but I also use garnet and lapis to no ill effect. I can't tolerate blue lace agate for anything - I loathe it. Ametrine does nothing for me....likewise with the agates. I like black tourmaline, but I don't find it particularily grounding, and it can make a depressive phase worse. Rose quartz I don't bother with, simply because it's "pink", fluffy, girly and utterly the opposite of my being.
Onyx works well for me, as does bloodstone, labradorite, amber, and carnelian.
Obviously it's going to depend on the individual, since we're all different, and there's more factors than just bi-polar order at work; astrological chart, elemental attunement, age, and personality being the ones that come to mind.

I learned something over the weekend that I didn't know. Lepedolite can be used for bi-polar. One of the minerals in its makeup is lithium salt--you can hold a chip of it under your tongue until it tastes yucky and get a dose of lithium.
Not sure if that is true or not, but I found that factoid very interesting.
Was also told you could grind it and use it in water or make tea.... lithium sun tea... interesting.

I have several pieces of lepidolite, and a tendency to stick things in my mouth, AND have taken lithium in the past...but I've never gotten anything but the energy from the lepidolite. It's one of those stones I have to "work" with consciously and deliberately to get anything from, rather than the ones I can just carry around with me and let them do their thing.
Never thought of making a tea/water out of it.

Ewww, I would not try that thing with sticking lepidolite in my mouth! LOL. I do love lepidolite though... such beautiful colours, and energy. Thanks for the tip! _inlove_
Also, OT: How in the heck do you pronounce lepidolite? I usually say it like "leopard (as in the big cat)-DOLE-light", but a lady at a newagey shop I used to go to regularly called it "Leh piddle light"... I don't like to say it like that because it has "piddle" in it! So I hope that isn't how you are supposed to say it!

There are no specific stones for Bipolar Disorder. I have Bipolar Disorder and I use a variety of stones that are generally used in crystal and gemstone magick for mental and emotional balance. If one has Bipolar Disorder and is feeling manic then a stone used for grounding should be used. When in a depressive state using a stone used to aid with depression should be used. It's common sense really... knowing the characteristics and symptoms of the Disorder and knowing the metaphysical properties of gemstones, crystals, and minerals.
By the way I have raw rose quartz candle holders on either sides of my bed and there are no ill effects. In fact since I've placed them there and when I light the candles my love life is quite awesome and our talks are more significant. I also have a lot of lapis in my home from chunks, to points, to beads that I make my necklaces with. I even wear those necklaces with no ill effects. I use lots of hematite in my necklaces as well... as the main focus and as spacers, and I even wear those necklaces as well, with no ill effects. Using color magick the color black draws a lot of the negative energy away from one... that's why when I am in a rage I will carry with me hematite or some sort of obsidian. It helps draw the negative energies away from me. In fact hematite is used in grounding oneself. I have pyrite in my home as well with no ill effects. And sapphire is my birthstone... I've never had bad experiences with it.

good for you, lady valkyrie.
the stones effects do vary from person to person
i have had a customer, who couldnt sleep with amethyst, but he slept well with citrine. who got horny from sodalite and totally peaceful with garnet.
when i answer questions in these threads, i go by the experiences i have made. and i know that many people with such conditions will react bad to the stones i warned from.
when someone asks me what stones to use/not use, i will go by general safety bets first.
i am glad though you have found your way with stones for yourself.
