I just made one and I'm still working on it, but I don't know how to use it. If you use a wand, do you have any advice for me on how to work with it?

Chapter 6 is on wands... anyways only free text I can think of off the top of my head. Though I think it is mainly about symbolism.
Wikipedia may have good stuff, and you should always google before asking, also don't forget to search this site too...
Of course you could try saying Bippity Boppity BOOM!!!
Seek and Ye Shall Find.

Okay--silly question--if you don't know how to use one why the heck did you make one?
If it is just because you think you need one, you don't. You are the only magic that is needed and your finger works great for directing energy.

As stated above Wands are used to aide the practitioner in directing energy. Your fingers will work as well if not better than a wand. Some people use things like a wooden spoon etc instead of a wand and others just use a stick ,etc ,etc.

Like the last two said, wands are just a tool, like the athame. You don't necissarily need them it's just a way to focus energy to your source. So if you absolutly need one, just read up on the actual use in guiding energies.

The wand is an extension of yourself. There is some argument over which element it's affiliated with (in my path is wand=fire) but the idea is that it helps you direct energies in harmony with that element. Wand as fire deals with a creative and passionate energy.
An obvious use of the wand is when casting a circle (though one can use any number of tools or none at all to do so) but it can be used for other things as well, like evocation and banishing. It's just one more way to focus your will/energy.

Make your circle, place a feather on the altar....point your wand at it, and repeat the phrase "wingardium leviosa". If the feather doesn't float, the wand isn't ready yet. If the feather disintigrates, you are not focusing hard enough, or you may need a different wand.

In my path wand=air. I can't wrap my mind around wand=fire, doesn't seem logical to me. sword=fire in my path, as well.

I feel the same way about the reverse :P
My reasoning is thus.
Wood burns. Steel, while it can be forged in fire is not itself combustible. And on top of that I'm a martial artist, so bladed weapons are something that I easily associate with air, since we're cutting air in our drills :)

I'll have to second that. When you made it, did something pull you to it? Did you intentionally make it? Was it fun to make or more like a task?
Like said before me people believe wand to be air or fire. I'd have to go with air, as I can relate it better. What I use the wand for personally, is not to direct energy (i have my fingers anf palms for that) but I use it as a visual representation of Air when I do closed circle rituals. Wand = air ; sword/athame = fire ; chalice = water ; plate of Salt = earth ; My pendant = spirit.
Mind you, I use those items in serious rituals or sabatts as they mean too much to me to use for everyday spell work.
Now for what a wand is used for... my way was one way to use it, but also you can use it to extend yourself higher and direct your energy. Keep in mind tools are just that! you don't need them to make magick. Newer witches sometimes need a visualization of their goal, or a visualization of a tool to help them concentrate. I'll tell you right now, I don't use any tools anymore and my spells almost always work.
hope this helped!
good luck on your path and blessed be :)
