A little poll...

Which ancient Egyptian symbols are the most important to you? With which ones do you identify the most and why?

Mine are:
-the Djed pillar, symbol of stability, which I see as the backbone not only of Wesir but also of the Egyptian civilisation itself. It also symbolises the regenerative power of the King
- Ma'at's feather, because Ma'at is the most important notion in my faith and the central concept in my spiritual practice. Balance, truth, justice and doing "what is right" are what I strive for.

What about you? :)

I voted ankh.
I have always been drawn to it, even before I knew it's meaning.

Eternal Life.

Ankh: This the most recognizable AE symbol for me. Whenever I see an ankh I think of Egypt. Its what I wear around my neck to remind me that there is life after death and my akhu are watching over me.

Ma'at's Feather: The basis of my religion and beliefs. Everything I do, in its own way, upholds Ma'at.

Eye of Heru: I'm not really sure why this symbol is so special to me but I love it. I draw it everywhere, in all my notebooks and in some of my drawings for example. My reason for this is probably something I need to contemplate a little more. The eyes will be the main part of my future tattoo.

The thing about ankhs is, they're really easily identifiable, but they weren't the most common of Kemetic amulets. Little god-forms were the most popular IIRC.

I forgot to vote Eye of Heru. *frown*

Personally, I don't tend to adorn myself with religious jewelry, but I do have an ankh pendant because they're pretty popular nowadays. People tend to think it's either a weird sort of Christian cross, though. If I was black they'd probably think it was a symbol of Afrocentricism -- seen it used that way.

In terms of pure symbolism, the Ba bird appeals to me, but I haven't worked with it enough to know how much it resonates personally.

The Feather of Ma'at - balance is important to me, and my hubby and I are both getting the feather of Ma'at tattooed in our own styles together. ;) Besides. :hahugh: it's Ma'at.

The Sistrum - I'm a Daughter of Bast and Beloved of HetHert - the sistrum is wonderful to me. I don't play mine often though; my dog doesn't like it. heh. (the cat just looks at me with that "what are you doing?" look)

I also meant to click Other - I'm obsessed with the wings and disc associated with Heru-Behdety, and have every intention of having it on my shoulders.

Good question, hon.

Firstly, the ankh. I've always loved them. Secondly, the Eye of Heru/Eye of Ra. That Eye just speaks to me. Ma'at's feather thirdly, I suppose. I have a small statue of Ma'at on my shrine.

alrighty,

I voted for the ankh. I have about 4 ankh pendants, all different sizes and styles. I love wearing them. It makes me feel close to my makers.

Whenever I see any Heru styled eyes, it reminds me of my religion, even if it's not actually Heru eyes.

the third i voted for was the ma'at feather... simply because it is the central ideal of my religion and my duty on this earth is to uphold ma'at.

;)

Oh yes, the winged disk is a wonderful symbol... I can always feel its protective power in temples where it adorns cornices and doorways :)

I voted for the Ankh and Ma'at's feather... though I should have thought to click other as I get quite excited about anything that might have something to do with Nebt-het, Seshat and especially Setekh :D

Scarab beetle (winged) and the Eye of Ra/Heru.

I also should have voted other, because my favorite symbol is Yinepu's, but I digress. *shrug*

I like the winged scarab and I cant really explain why. M'love found an eye pendant at the Reserves. I think it should be his, but he doesnt wear jewelry.

The ankh. I love pictures where a Name is holding the ankh to a person's face.

The eye of Heru. They remind me of my Father, His protection.

I forgot to click other. The winged sun disc and the lotus are also very important to me.

The Ankh, tiet knot, sema tawy, and other (seven pointed star or a rosette, papyrus scrolls, palm branch, reed pens, writing palette, and the throne)

I've never been really interested in egyptian gods, except for ISIS. However when I was a teenager, I found an anhk on the ground. I thought it was just a fancy cross at the time. I don't know what I did with it, I still have it around somewhere.

Mine is the Wedjat eye / Eye of Heru / Eye of Ra and the Ankh... followed closely by the Scarab beetle and the Sistrum... also the Tiet knot (Isis knot) .

I wear a pair of earrings with the two Eyes of Heru and a necklace with an Ankh as my everyday jewelry, I love them.

They all are. I study and use egyptian heiroglyphs as words of written power as well as spoken. The visual image has power to me and depending on whatever it is I'm reading and speaking all of those images/symbols could be of importance in the ritual/rite/incantation/spellwork I might be conducting.

I have a fondness for all of them! They each hold power in their own right and I don't think that one necessarily has more power than another because it completely depends on the context it might be being used. :)

Good Survey though! :fpraise: :fpraise: :fpraise: the heiroglyphs!

I voted for the Feather of Ma'at and the Eye of Heru. The feather of Ma'at, of course, is the symbol of balance (and hopefully justice) and is (as stated by someone else) the basis of our KO faith. The Eye of Heru is a symbol of protection - and I like feeling as though the Gods are keeping on eye on me and care enough to know what's going on. :)

Got to go with HetHert here, ALL are important. Some of my favorites not mentioned; Crook & Flail, Mirror of Hathor and the Chalace of Nephthys.

I choose six, for various different reasons...

ankh - the ankh symbolizes life for me...a part of Ankh, Udja, Seneb (life, prosperity, health) that is a part of every day...life (heh), for me.

djed pillar - the stability behind the ankh (quite literally sometimes...the ankh is pictured sometimes with the djed pillar)

Ma'at's feather - Truth, Justice, Peace, Harmony...everything that I strive to live within is contained in Ma'at's feather.

Eye of Ra - How can I not? Bast-Mut and Amun-Ra are both Eye's of Ra (yeah, bend your head around Amun-Ra with that one)...the Eye is about protectiveness,
vengance, and setting things back to Ma'at.

scarab beetle - something that I live with everyday, because I am a Shemsu-Ankh in the House of Netjer... I have a scarab that I wear every waking moment. There's quite a bit of symbolization behind it, but it's hard to put into words.

Other - Heh, here I bring in all the weird little things that keep reminding me of my faith. Any Bast statue, any sphinx, the pyramid shape, heiroglyphs in general... the list could be quite long, if I tried thinking of everything. :D

I picked ankh, tyet, djed, Ma'at feather, udjat, and other. Other: lotus, Set animal, the glyphs for my deities' names. I think the reasons are all pretty obvious - most everyone covered all the bases. Ankh and udjat just make me think of Kemet in general, and I'm always wearing an ankh pendant, the Ma'at feather reminds me what I need to be striving for. Tyet, lotus, and djed all remind me of specific deities that are close to me. (take a guess who? ;) )

I'm going to add the ib, the heart amulet. Ever since Djehuty gave me the name IbDjehuty in a dream last year, I've been craving an ib pendant thing. But no one makes them, not that I've been able to find, so I'll have to look into making one myself. Not sure how I'll make it, but I'll find a way, I'm sure.

I'm sure you can do it, hon.
fimo? maybe?

I'd like to find something waterproof, but I'm limited in what I can work with. I suppose fimo could work. Not like I"m in any position to do anything yet, but I'll have to go to craft stores to see what's around.
