Well, I'm super excited. I'm leaving for England (I'm a *chaperone*! teehee!) on Monday (19th), and on the 26th (we could go on the 24th, but I think it'll be the 26th), my brother and I will be making a pilgrimage to the Rollright Stones. Our tradition's "history" says that our founder was from a coven around there. I don't know if it's true, but I grew up with that story, so the Rollrights have always been special to me. ^_^ And now I'll get to meet them. ^_^

So, has anyone here ever been there? Any suggestions?

I went there about 7 or 8 years ago. It's a nice little circle, and I remember it having a good feel. It got vandalised a few years ago, though, doing untold damage to a few millenia of history. There was a big news campaign to find the culprits, spurred on in no small part by the fact that some local witches cast a spell to make sure they got caught...As far as I know, they never did, but to be fair the media aren't exactly big on follow ups to things like that.

I don't know what happened after that... Though this past January, an arsonist burnt the visitors hut (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/4644482.stm) down. I heard that it was to be rebuilt, but I don't know how far along they've gotten with that...

They've had a bad run of luck...

I visited the rollright stones about 7 years ago and whilst I'm stone -circle obsessed and have been to quite a few of them throughout the U.K..this site to me has a wierd vibe , so wierd I couldn't bear to touch them or walk within the circle...it definitly lives up to it's sinister reputation . If you get a chance , the sites around and including Avebury are well worth a visit , but be carefull and prepare well as both these sites pack alot of energy ( if you can pick up that sort of thing , remember to take some grounding crystals with you ) . Enjoy.

(Much of my jewelry is made of grounding stones anyway, I'll just remember to wear it.)

I don't know about Avebury, but we will be going to Stonehenge and Bath the day before. Unfortunately, since it's part of an educational tour, we don't have as much choice in where we go. Next time I go (which will probably take another 6 years at least) I want to completely avoid the big cities, and just visit little towns and rural places.

Thanks for the advice! ^_^
