Well, the skyclad poll I just responded to got me thinking about robes. :hahugh:
Those of you who own a set of robes-- where, when and why did you get them? What do you use them for-- group work, festivals, solitary work, etc.?
Also, can anyone recommend a particularly good robe-maker or supplier (reasonably priced, and preferrably UK-based?)

I own two sets of ritual robes.. one set is blue with a seperate blue tabard and one set is dark maroon. Both sets were for group work in different groups, the blue set for an open ritual group I attended (and they weren't required, just helped set the mood), and the second set is for a short lived coven that I was a member of.
For solitary work I tend not to wear them.. much easier to work skyclad or in simple street clothes depending on the situation.
As to where I got them, the material came from local fabric shops and my GF sewed them for me.. handy to have someone who sews.

I know three Pagans who are seamstresses in my area, but I don't suppose you'll be coming to Los Angeles in the near future...
The other day I was Musing with some Classic, and I had an idea. I call it the Pagan Gospel Choir & New Age Jazz Ensemble. We would do a mix of Swing, Gospel, & Traditionals. The lyrics would have an Enlightened slant to them, and we would also have a couple of Vaudeville acts thrown into the performance. I figure we'd need 8 sets of robes for the choir & band members, fitting in with the Sabbats...

Hmm. Well...I have a plain black hooded robe, a green one in the same pattern, a white one with green trim, a black and blue ritual dress, a grey dress I use for moon rites, a black hankerchife robe, a black greek robe, a green egyptian robe, a brown robe with a green celtic apron, and hopefully soon a blue robe in the same style as the brown.
I'm sure I'm missing one...what can I say? I like robes. I'm lucky that my priestess is a seamstress.

How greedy. Especially when there are nekkid pagans such as myself running around. Lol.
Seems you need to know the right people to get your hands on these things. 8O

I'm in a BTW coven, and if there's anything we've got, it's gear. I have hardly any robes compared to my high priestess. She's got a whole closet full - a full 40 years of robes.
I forgot to list my red handfasting dress. :p

I have a short robe with celestial symbols on it. I bought it at the pagan pride day festival a few years back. Some really awesome but pricey ones are available at Ren faires.
I made one for a friend of my daughter's a few years back. I used a cape pattern from the local sewing store. It was nice, lined with a hood. Not too hard to sew, but even for a girl, the material costed over $40, and it was thin. A nice robe will cost you, but with care will last a lifetime.

I plan on making a very very basic ritual robe of cotton for when it's chilly-burr or not very appropriate to go otherwise nakey lol two bits of cloth cut in a basic dress shape and tie a rope or pretty bit of fabric around your middle and you're good to go!

My partner made my robes for me, they are black, with pleats in the skirt part and big sleves with a purple vine trim, and a purple over-mantle with a silver trim. They look somewhat similar to the undead acolyte robes of warcraft 3... for no aparent reason :D They are 100% cotton, and I wear them for serious rituals, or rituals that will take a long time. Most of the time I'm fine to go nakie no matter who is around, or watching over the fence as the case may be...
At the moment my mum is knitting me a full length hooded cloak. She's going at it without a pattern though, so if anyone has a pattern lemme know, coz that would really help!
I'm not in the UK though, so I've got no helpful advice.

The group I work with, the Wiccan Church of Canada, tends to go robed. I started wearing robes because everyone else does, and because damn, they're comfortable. It's an enormous shame that skirted garments aren't socially acceptable for men in this part of the world *shakes fist*
I have two robes. One is made of green cotton and fits like a sack. I've had it for a while, and I'm retiring it in favour of the new one I made for my Dedication into the WCC. The new one looks and fits wonderfully, is the most ridiculously comfortable thing to wear I can think of, and is made of off-white raw silk. Mmmmmmmmmmm......soooooo comfortable.......

I've actually discovered a really inexpensive US supplier. Now the postage will sting, but it's such a saving on the actual robe that I'm just going to buy from them anyway. Unless I can find competitive supplier in the UK.

BeltaneSong has three sets of robes, but his ritual robes are a goregous white linin that he made himself. I've a purple crushed velvate robe I love, but I wouldn't consider it a ritual robe. We're eventually going to buy some fabric for him to make me a set as well.

I have a cloak that I've only worn a couple of times. I usually dont wear it for solitary work but I belong to a teaching circle and I might start wearing it to solstice celbrations. I ordered it from here in the US. I cant find the site, sorry, but the link you provided looks pretty great. As a matter of fact, I really like the clasps and I may have to get one of those. My cloak ties at the neck and I think I want to add a clasp.

I have a ritual dress I wear. Its full length black crushed velvet with satin trim at the neck and wrists and has an empire waist and tight fitting sleeves. I'd like a cloak at some point, but would never give up my dress!!! _inabox_
