Is your life like a big real 3D RPG? Or do you just play RPGs? Me I like Final Fantasy.

I seriously thought I was living in the Fallout universe for a few weeks last year.

I love, love, love the FF games! I've finished 7, 8 and 9 (there aren't any others available here yet :( :( :( :mad ) I'm totally obsessed - I've finished them all, they take up about 30 slots on my memory cards, and now I'm writing fanfics about them.

My life isn't like any of them though (pity).

If my life was like an RPG, I would be able to cast Firaga/Blizzaga (FF8) at will without any silly little ritual. :D

My life isn't like RPG's unfortunately, however it does feel like the game Civilization III from time to time.

Yes, there have been times when i wish my life would be an RPG. but we must remember if it were, we would find THAT life completely normal, and probably wish for OUR lives lol

Love the whole Final Fantasy series. But games is games, and life is life. I'd rather live life.

Besides, if you really stop to think about it, we all play roles in our daily lives. With that in mind, life IS an RPG.

There's no actual role-playing in them. Computer games are strategy games. You have to figure out what the computer wants you to do, at what specific times, in order to win. You only have the choices the computer lets you have.

REAL RPGs happen when people get together (either in person or online) and make up characters and worlds and tell stories and interact in character and pretend to be someone else. I've been RPGing for nigh on 20 years now, and I could tell you stories you wouldn't believe about my characters' adventures and relationships. What can you tell me about Lara Croft that any other player couldn't tell me?

You mean Live action yes? Those are really fun, but it is not the definate Role Playing. I would think that one would think that the Final Fantasy series was role playing?

ah, there is a fine line between tactics games and computerized rpg games. . . .and usually someone's using the blur filter so heavily that you just CAN'T get a clear picture of where that line is! hehe tis nothing to stress at!

Besides, you have to play the role of say Cloud from FF7. . . you have to get into his character to guess what to do correctly hehe

. . . either that, or buy the strategy guide!

 what if there was a strategy guide for life?!?!?!?

Niether of us have ORDINARY lives do we? LOL

I wouldn't have it any other way! :p ;) :D

I maintain, there's no role-playing. It's only a step up in sophistication from those "Choose Your Own Adventure" books that were so popular with kids a few years ago, where you only had two or three options for action at any given point. If you are in a computer game, and a computer-generated character comes up to your character, can you say anything you want to him? Can you make a pass? Can you tell him his mother wears army boots? What will he respond if you do? In computer games, you're basically limited to a few options for action and a limited number of conversational gambits. And if you return to a place, say a tavern, after leaving, the bartender will say exactly the same thing to you as you did the first time you entered. Never, "what, you here again?" or "what did you forget this time?" or even, "I told you before, no credit!" There's no improvisation, no interaction, no relationships, no ad-libs, no side-trips. Only what is dictated by the programmer's desired plot line.

I don't LARP, I'm not physically up to it, though I know some who live for it. I'm an old-style table-top gamer. A couple of rule-books (often ignored), a stack of character sheets, some dice, a hand-drawn map, a story beginning and some idea of where you want it to go (I never write the end of the story, the players will always do something unexpected, and then you roll with it -- remind me to tell you about the Orcish Foreign Legion and the Quest for Boots sometime) ... And then there's the MUDS and MUSHes and MUCKs where it happens over the computer, with people from all over the country describing what their characters do and the world they move in. And even ten years later, we rehash some of our great adventures and the ridiculous things our characters did and wonder how they got out of it alive. We create. With a computer game, all you do is walk through someone else's story.

I dont think my life is like an RPG, although I dont mind playing them. Final Fantasy 8 is my fave. I love the whole FF series but I'm a bit of a quitter so I dont usually have the ambition to beat the games after I get stuck.

Well, you could play the FF games for months and miss a lot (believe me I speak from experience - I've spent about 400 hours playing those games, and I'm getting another of them v. soon, hehe)

I've been playing rpg's since I was 11, every kind you can think of. I've done playtesting for whitewolf(revised laws of the hunt billy trozzo.... yes I'm proud to have my name in a book), Ton's of tabletop rpg's d&d, cyberpunk, nam, vampire, steeltable.... that could go on too long. Larps like sca, ampgard, camarilla, paranioa. and a SLEW of computer rpg's. And I would agree that there is a definite difference between computer rpg's where it's just you and the computer and others.

But there are true computer rpg's. ulitma online, Everquest (which I am currently completely addicted to NEVER PLAY IT IT WILL RUIN YOUR LIFE) and other mmpog (massive multiplayer online games) Because with these you are interacting with other real people and can play out your character.

out of all of them I prefer larps, it's alot of fun to act out your character for an entire night. But there all fun.

Two games:

Lunar and Lunar 2... The Sega CD (remember that?) versions were the best RPG's I've ever played. I had trouble actually caring about the characters in most of the FF games.. 7 and 10 being the only exceptions.

The Ultima games up to 7 part 2 also rate pretty high on my list.

And one more: Dragon Warrior.

I could never understand LARPing. My friend had an ex that was into it and I have many friends that like it, I just couldn't really get it. I only tried it like once and was pretty much lost. I prefer the video game RPG.

My life reads quite like a soap opera lately... lawyers, (proven to be) false allegations, insane jealous ex-wives, friends in popular rock bands, on top of it all - I'm a sorceress... Who needs RPG's when you live it?

My life is still an rpg. Actually, I think I'm in the Sequil right now. Because the first game ended with one helluva bang, kinda like The Empire Strikes Back.

Right now is the lull at the middle of the game, where there are storyline threads, but you're not exactly sure what's going on and you havn't got the slightest idea where to go - you're waiting for the next movie to start playing, only you can't find the trigger :bad:

I LOVE RPG'S!!

NWN is great, I've beaten all of the final fantasy series except for 9 (I hated 9) and 4(never played it)

I've beaten Morrowind, Currently playing Legaia 2, I beat legend of Legaia(precurrsor to Legaia 2)

I havbe .hack //infection (havent beat it yet)

Also have Dark Cloud 2 (really fun, just dont play it for some reason...I really should)

I've also played almoist ever MMPORPG imaginable:

Everquests (sucked...BOOOOOOOOO HISSSSSSS give me back the 6 months of my life you stole!)
Asheron's Call (my favorite MMPG :) 2.5 years, just quit recently, cause I couldn't stay interested :( )
Asheron's Call 2 (fun, but lacking, was released too early and is now dieing)
Dark age of Camelot (also sucked, only played Beta)
Horizons Beta
Lineage 2 Beta (korean open beta right now, not bad but most is in Korean lol)

and, almost any other you can think of at one point or another (I've at least tried the majority of them)

BUT!

Well my life is sort of like a roleplaying game... but I like to thik the games I design are better than my life.

See I design roleplaying games for the d20 system. Mostly fantasy, but some cyberpunk and modern materials. I release under the company name of Dark Quest Games or EN Publishing (www.enworld.org). But I've also designed materials for Ambient Games, Ronin Games, and Bastion Press.

By life is all fun and games.. but I try not to cut down my enemies with a rapier... at least I try and keep the blade clean. Blood on the blade is just too messy to clean up... and it hurts my poor blade. :)

My life isn't an rpg, it's a trip...

My dreams are the rpg -- 3D, full-color, no limits, no holds barred, lots of fun and full of surprises.

That's why I don't drink alcohol much; depresses REM sleep.

My life is a combination of a big RPG and a really cheesey soap opera. I feel like I'm putting on a production for someone a lot of times. At my school we have sort of a "Tarot Club" where we picked cards from the major arcana that best suited our personalities. I, of course, am The Fool, but really, it's just a facade sometimes. It is my nature to want to be happy, but I can't bring myself to it, if that makes any sense. Yet people are so used to me being The Fool, it's like I'm not allowed to be sad. I can only be sad when nobody's looking.

But it's not like I want to be sad or anything. I just need to get it out of my system. You know? O_O

yeah, i have to say that my life is like an rpg. i'm in the army. i have to be someone i'm not, and act the way my "character" is expected to act. also i guess i could compare rank to experience level. i get sent on missions, i have a weapon proficiency, class specific skills...sounds pretty rpg-like to me at least.
