Same here. I've never heard of that. Interesting...you got me curious now.
Oh, I found this:
Eurynome was easily the most important Goddess of Pelasgian myth. She was the Great Goddess, Mother, Creatrix, Ruler, called the Goddess of All Things.
Eurynome was born from Chaos, and her first work was to separate the water from the sky. When she had accomplished this, she began to dance across the water. It was a beautiful, sensual dance of creation. As she danced, she danced South, and faster and faster she danced until a wind grew behind her. Eurynome caught this new thing, this wind, between her hands and rubbed it into a snake. The snake, called Ophion, watched as the Goddess danced and danced to keep herself warm. He saw Eurynome dancing across the waves and was filled with lust. He coiled his body around the Goddess seven times and made love to her as she danced.1 (http://www.paleothea.com/#1)
Impregnated by Ophion, soon the Goddess lay the Universal Egg. Ophion wrapped his body around it seven times at Eurynome's bidding. As it opened, the earth spilled forth, born populated with animals and plants.
At this point the Mother ascended to Mt. Olympus and began to watch her children take shape. When she ascended, the serpent Ophion followed her as the Goddess's consort. Eurynome had no problem with this, but when Ophion began to swagger and boast that he alone was responsible for the creation of the world, Eurynome kicked all his teeth out as she threw his butt out of heaven.
The next thing Eurynome did was very interesting, and involves other mythology you might know about. She created the Seven Planetary Powers, putting a Titaness and a Titan over each. Theia (http://www.paleothea.com/MinorsO-Z.html#Th) and Hyperion were given the Sun and the power of illumination; Phoebe and Atlas were given the Moon and the power of enchantment; Dione and Crius were given the planet Mars and the power of growth; Metis and Coeus were given the planet Mercury and the power of wisdom; Themis and Eurymedon were given the planet Jupiter and the power of law; Tethys and Oceanus were given the planet Venus and the power of love; and Rhea and Cronus took the planet Saturn with the power of peace. If you look at each of the assignments, you'll find they match perfectly.
The first person was a different story. In this tradition, the first human was the man Pelasgus who sprang from the soil of Arcadia (soon followed by others). They made little huts and ate acorns and wore pig-skin tunics.
That's all the STORY about her, but now for the explanations.
These myths are ancient ancient myths. Back then, there were no Gods or priests, only one mother Goddess and her priestesses. Part of the reason for this was that fatherhood was not clearly understood. People believed that women could be impregnated by the wind (like in the story) or eating something funny. Obviously, inheritance was matrilineal. Eurynome was only one of the Goddess's names. Eurynome, "wide wandering," refers to her as the moon traveling across the sky, by the Sumerians she was called the "exalted dove," or, Iahu. The Eurynome cult spread all over the Mediterranean and was really a base for most of the religions of the area.
There are other things to explain, but I have no time right now.
In the Titan cults that preceeded the Olympic cults (Classical mythology), Eurynome was the daughter of Oceanus the Titan. She was a Titaness married to the Titan Ophion. But in this version, though Eurynome still ruled heaven, Ophion ruled as an equal. The two ruled together on Mt. Olympus until Cronos replaced Ophion and Rhea replaced Eurynome.
By the time Classical mythology came around, Eurynome had shrunk to being one of Zeus' many loves (mother of the Charites (http://www.paleothea.com/MinorsA-E.html#Ce)) and a gentle Oceanid. A far cry from the All-Powerful Creatrix she was once worshipped as.
http://www.paleothea.com/Myths/Eurynome.html
So she was the goddess of all things...is that were the idea came from that she was the mother of Aphrodite, etc?

If you're into Recon, you can see if there are any books about the Roman Empire and ususally there are sections in them that describe the religion. It's no where thourough, but it is some info.

There are also many places and groups online that you can find and join that talk about Religlio Romana...Yahoo Groups have many groups devoted to it.
Paganism > > Religio Romana (http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geuqswnphEdBkAU71XNyoA/SIG=14p5dju5o/EXP=1150939056/**http%3a//dir.yahoo.com/Society_and_Culture/Religion_and_Spirituality/Faiths_and_Practices/Paganism/Traditions_and_Paths/Religio_Romana/) is a starting place with some sites listed
Aslo look though here: search results with tons of links (http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=Religio+Romana&ei=UTF-8&fr=FP-tab-web-t400&x=wrt)
And there are plenty of resources about Roman deities out there, they're one of the most widely know gods in mythology.
Hope that helps. :)
Oh I also wanted to add that many public libraries are willing to order books if you ask for it. Mine does, you ask for a book, they order it.
If you're worried about them thinking anything about your religion, just say it's for a report about ancient Roman religion and life.
Librarians usually don't care what you check out and believe. All the care about is that you're using the resources and reading, lol. I've checked out books on every kind of religion and they don't bat an eye lash...though in some part of the US where Paganism is frowned upon some might have issues...but it's really know their place to say anything about it. All books no matter what they topic are supose to be provided to people.

Wow! That is quite an extensive list, thank you Agaliha. I can't believe I forgot about the library and its book-ordering-network-thingy, silly me!
School is pretty much over for the summer, so I'll have a lot of time to do research and I'll check out some of those Yahoo! groups. I had done searches before, but mostly I got cameos of sorts with the Greek Religion and deities. Occasionally I would get something like Nova Roma.
So thank you so much again!

That goddess pic you just posted is the Minoan Snake Goddess "Pontia" ...not Eurynome from any book or site I've ever seen. (Though I could be wrong)
But if you believe all goddesses are part of Eurynome, then I suppose The Minoan Snake Goddess would just be another aspect, right? But historically they're not the same...even though they're from the Greek area.
For a great thread about the Minoan Snake Goddess, check this out: Minoan/Crete Dieties (http://www.mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?t=111083&highlight=Minoan) You can read about the discovery, history, her and there are tons of pics (which look just like the one you posted)

I've never heard of Eurynome until now-- well I have heard of her, but well there are soooo many deities in the Greek pantheon that I didn't know what she was about. Now I do.
She seems pretty cool :)
The differences in creation myths remind me of Kemet. There's the Heliopolis creation with Ra and Isis and the Nine. Then there's the Thebian one with Amun and Mut and lastly the Memphsis one with Sekhmet and Ptah.
Oh, I just found this thread: Pre-Hellenic Pelasgian culture? (http://www.mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?t=47690&highlight=Eurynome) perhaps you can answer that question...

Are there any other Greek,Roman or Hellenic pagans here?
Overe here!
I have been devoted to Aphrodite and Dionysos for several years now, and I also feel a strong connection with Demeter, Hera, and Hekate, and have honoured them a while, as well. I've just recently decided to follow a more traditionally Hellenic way of worship by observing the sacrifice days of festivals on the Athenian calendar. It's been an adjustment, I've already forgotten a few sacrifice days, and I wasn't sure if this was the month of Posedion II or Gamelion (I found out it's Poseidon II, after already marking the Gamelion events on my calendar:p). It gets kind of confusing at times, but I guess I just have to get the hang of doing somethign new.
Oh, I have heard of Eurynome and her connection to Aphrodite. I read it in a Robert Graves book, and his historical accuracy can be rather questionable. I remember reading his Pelasgian creation myth in his book "The Greek Myths" and then in his Aphrodite section, he said she was the same goddess who rose out from chaos and danced on the sea (Eurynome). It was interesting, although I'm not sure how accurate it is. Graves also is into connecting Goddesses into a Maiden-Nymph-Crone triad, which isn't historically Greek either, so I take his information with a grain of salt.
Does anyone use Attican Calendar for holidays?
I've been using the Athenian calendar. Do you have a link for the Attic one? I'm curious to see if I'll like one better than the other. :)
