Last night my mother said she saw two ghosts next to her bed the night before, I have seen these two too and I know they mean no harm and they just wanted to talk to her, however she doesnt like them. The problem is that she is finally seeing ghosts and I have seen them all my life, it is nice to have some one to talk to about these things (even if she is my mother... ) but she doesnt want to see them any more. I can 'fix' it so that she doesnt see the ghosts anymore but then I loose a person who thinks I am not nuts but she has expressed the desire not to see them again and I cant just do nothing because it might be my fault that she can now see them! Oh gods I hate this, I can fix her and she can live out her life in ignorance and all that or I can leave her be (and possibly by my mistake!) and have some one to discuss these things with and some one who isnt as crazy to say that it is no big deal. The other problem is that I am not going to stay here for much longer as I am going off to college and she would be left with seeing them and I would be away (hopefully in another state) and then she is in the same boat I am!
Sometimes I think life would be alot easier if I were an atheist/materialist, but that would never work I can feel too much as well... Grrr...

I would put my mom's feelings and needs before my own, without question.
A lot of people at MW know about spirits and see them so it's not like you're totally alone.

ya your right just call it momentary selfish desire, but I have never talked to any one who can see them face to face before...

So you've just ignored half the people at MW who mention having seen ghosts?

Just ask the ghost to leave your mom alone. I have a brother and sister (they're dead) living in my house and at one point they were very active. I told them that we were more then willing to share the house with them if we could all just kinda do our own thing so to speak. They haven't been much of a bother since. I'll feel them from time to time but it's nothing like it was. It'd probably be better for your mom that way but you wouldn't have to kick the ghosts out of their home. I'm assuming that they haven't acted like poltergeists (throwing things) so they're probably reasonable (poltergeists on the other hand aren't).

nope sorry wrong wording of that. I havent talked to any one face to face who can also see ghosts. I have not ignored those who have said that they too can see them I just have never met any of them in r/l so I dont know them beyond their posts and such.

I don't think that helping her to stop seeing them would be a total loss. Even though she wouldn't see them herself anymore, she might still take you more seriously because she's seen the ghosts first hand.

I agreee just becase she no longer would see them doesn't mean she won't take you seriously because my mother thought i was insane until keith (ghost) walked up to her bed and stared at her until she woke up. she doesn't she them any more but she doesn't laugh at me when i talk about them now.

I can see why you'd want to fix it so your mom wouldn't see the ghosts, and I can't really see any harm in that; it's not like they're "supposed" to be seen anyways, right?
Besides that though, I think the suggestion of talking to them is one of your best bets in this case. Heck, just ask curiously "why are you around here? Do you need something?" Sometimes I wonder whether things are actual entities or just echoes of sorts. I think a question would probably be the best way to find out. Ghosts never really scared me, they actually intrigue me as to their nature, I'm not sure it's always as simple as we assume or have been told.
