What is the silliest public ritual you've ever been to?

I've been to alot. This past public summer sol was pretty laughable. Toilet blue water for the consecrated water, the circle casting was completely laughable, we were lectured that it isn't a spectators sport (and that we'd have to leave if we stood around) but then we just stood around and watched the dancers, other all it was long and boring and utterly silly.

Any stories from the rest of ya'll's?

I think the silliest one I've been to was where the folks in charge of the ritual and the folks calling the quarters were more interested in partying than actually doing a ritual. They were drinking and had their beer cans and on the altars and were smoking their cigarettes while casting the circle. Hard to take much seriously when that kind of thing is going on.

My boyfriend (or life partner as I like to call him) went to New Orleans about 4 yars ago and participated in an open Voodoo ritual. It was basically a show for the tourist NOTHING was authentic. They even went along the stereotyped Halloween image. The loa "posession" was over dramatic and faked. Even now to think about it irks me!

LOL. The worst elemental calling ritual I've gone to was in Las Vegas, where they had a different color lighter for the different elements. It made me want to cry. But that's a pet peeve of mine: not lighters during any form of ritual. striking a match is not that hard.

LOL. I'm sure that sort of thing is normal down there, though.

Oh dear if you want to see silly rituals you need to come to Salem MA. Lets just say there have been fog machines involved.

Oh thats just beautiful! I don't think I would be able to keep a straight face if someone whipped out a fog machine at ritual!:awilly:

OK, so far that's the winner!

The only thing that could make that worse is if they were standing around sirring a giant cauldron going "Double, double, toil and trouble....."

LOL

i dont think that i have been to many silly rituals, we might get creative once in a while. as far as the public goes we do our best to not be too silly.
