How can someone say something highly offensive and add "no offense" ? I'm not goona give names or anything, but if I say something like "You're beliefs are stupid. No offense" you'd proabaly take offense anyway. So please, think about what you're saying, and if it makes sense.

It means "no offense meant" or "I don't want to offend you", not "you can't be offended by this", btw. I'd find it very difficult for most people to convincingly say "that's a dumb belief, no offense" but actually there are a few people who I could see doing that.

The Greetings of Andrasta friend!I think I understand what you are saying.

And then your signature says:

war is everywhere. those who believe in peace are ignorant. ignorant of what's going on in the world and what peace really is.

I am Twig, the druid moderator here. Also known on the web as "The Druid of Peace".:D I also had a yahoo club known as Druids of Peace. (Note-This is personal opinion)

Now, by your signature I could claim it is directed toward me theoretically. And yet, it would bother me not. Why? because I have the conviction of purpose behind me. Or to put it another way, to get mad at those words would prove my ignorrance of the very basis of what I try to "preach".

You see, if you firmly belive in something and are committed to it you become an example of it and not much can sway you. In my case I look at the alternative war and every time I turn on the news my conviction is strengthened. Yes, war is everywhere and being ex-military I take more notice than others at the amount of hate and fear in this world. But I can say that I have changed others outlooks by being an example of peace and the inner calmness it gives.

So I would take no offense to your words and hopefully you would see that war is not everywhere. It is not here, in me.

I leave you in......

Peace,
Twg

don't pay attention to people.

your beliefs only have to be important to YOU.

people tell me i'm stupid all the time, for having tattoos, for being married at 20, for not going to college, for being pro-choice, for having had an abortion, and for a list of other reasons.

i don't let it bother me. even if they had legitimate reasons for saying i was stupid, i wouldnt' let it bother me at all.

people who judge other people are stupid.

ignore the ignorant.

Hmmmmmm..herein lay the difference for me.

Saying..."You're beliefs make no sense to me. Personally. And I think they are rediculous, personally. No offense.".

Is quite differen't than saying.."you're beliefs make no sense to me, personally..And by the way, did I mention that I think you are a total blind, sheepminded idiot for believing them?" is a totally differen't deal.

Saying the original thing..."you're beliefs make no sense to me personally, and seem rediculous. No offense". Leaves a little bit of room. It says....(in the utter fine print of it all), "Hey..it could just be me. It could just be that I don't get it. But never the less..i respect your right to believe them...i just don't personally GET them.".

Quite another thing from calling someone an idiot. Which is just cause for that someone being offended :)
