View Full Version : Do You Believe in Ghosts?

Okay, so I was talking with my friend who's close friend was carjacked and murdered, and she said that her and her other girlfriend can sense the deceased girl around the house. The light switch turns on, the tv flickers, there are little energy orbs when taking pictures.
I have always believed that there really are ghosts (spirits who have not left this world), and that the reason why they are still around is because they have some unfinished business. In this case I think the girl who passed away needs closure, to know that everything is going to be alright with her closest girlfriends and that justice is served so those people cannot kill anymore innocent victims.
It is sad because 3 out of the 4 murderers were from Louisiana, and they had no remorse for killing these people. Most of them were 17-20 years old, and the victims were 17 and 23. Now, how can a person do something so senseless after millions have tried to help them get back on their feet? I hate to say this, but it might have something to with their socioeconomic status, since they were among the demographic of poor blacks from that region. Here is the news story http://www.khou.com/news/local/houstonmetro/stories/khou060626_ac_missingcouplefolo.c3c51a0d.html
What do you guys think about ghosts lingering? Do any of you have any stories of seeing green film, orbs, sensing energy, having light switches turn on, etc...
I would love to hear these stories, since I have always been interested in hearing about the spiritual realm, and I have also heard that you can open Pandora's Box if you aren't careful by inviting spirits into your lives and your house.

What a tragic thing to happen - I am so sad for those kids, so sad that their lives were taken that way! Horrible!
As for the issue of 'ghosts' - I don't think that's really the term I would use in such a situation. Until recently I hadn't given it very much thought, but then one of my oldest and dearest friends committed suicide not too very long ago.
What's interesting is that my daughter (who is 20 and pretty level-headed) and I had the experience of "feeling" my friend, *sensing* her, all around us in our apartment for a few days after her death. Three days exactly. And the feeling was SO STRONG I can't even properly explain it... except to say that it felt EXACTLY like it felt to be with her in a room when she was still alive and in her physical body... I mean it felt **identical.** It was disturbing because not only did it feel just like having her in the room with us, but there was also an overarching emotion that went with it... a feeling that can only be described as creepy, unsettling, and... I can't think of another way to say it, except to say that there was a feeling of evil.
I'm not saying *she* became evil... I'm saying that there was some kind of evil emanating from her, within the same feeling of what her "presence" felt like. As if there had been a feeling of evil around her when she decided to do it and when it was finally done. I felt like she was there and she was upset, frantic, angry and full of agitation... as if she didn't really believe she'd go through with it, and once she did, it wasn't the way she expected or hoped it would be. I had the feeling that she had caused such pain and anger, so much grief (she left behind a teenaged daughter who found her) that she was there in order to see the "ripple effect" so to speak. My hunch is that she had to spend a few days in various places, with various people, seeing the effects of her actions prior to moving on to whatever. I have the impression that she could not simply end her life and be done with it, and that there was some level of responsibility that had to be taken... and that she didn't really want to deal with it. Maybe because of the pain of knowing the pain she had caused; maybe because of regret that she couldn't undo her actions; maybe because she didn't feel better as a result of her actions, or something.
I know all of this sounds completely bizarre - but I will never, ever forget what that felt like to have her "presence" or "feeling" or whatever it was here with us in our apartment like that... it was so strong that frankly I was concerned that it might be *permenant.* I don't think I could have taken it for much longer; three days of it was *plenty* to cope with.
Now that I've experienced that... I know that there is something about people that can be felt by other people whether in a physical body or spiritual body.
Previously I wasn't sure what I thought about such things. I have always believed in an afterlife (I'm Christian, and I do believe in heaven) but I don't know exactly how the experience with my friend fits into things. I have concerns about that. (Not about the Scripture's teachings... but about what this means for my friend, and all of those agitated, frantic, edgy feelings we were feeling from her). I pray that my worries for her are unfounded.

yes and no. I believe a spirit impression can be left on a place. I don't believe in them doing much or being malignant.

I lived for many years in a hunted house. (See some of my other posts) Not just ghosts but other types of energies also. I've also sent some on the way to 'the next world'. I like to have a ghost or 2 around.

I would figure that a lot of Castles over there would have ghosts still around because of the history and just because there were so many battles and lost souls perhaps. Thanks for sharing that Aelfoak.

Yup.
They hang out around with me all the time.
I can feel them, hear them and smell them.
I rarely see them.
They like to play with my hair sometimes, and even so much as "dare" to curl on my bed next to me when I'm sleeping.
Aside for one time where I've encountered a mean one.. It didnt hurt me, but it felt VERY uncomfortable after a while.
Other than that, they seem to be ver child-like sometimes. At least the ones who hang around me.

I've sensed & seen what I believe are spirits all my life. I don't believe we just stop exsisting when we die so whether we go on to the Summerland/Heaven or we stick around here for whatever reason, spirits/ ghosts are everywhere in my humble opinion. My little girl was scared of the thought of ghosts, I just told her "ghosts are just people like us, they just don't need their body anymore" LOL

For all of those who have lived with/amongst ghosts, how in the world did you keep sane? I know that being around them every once in a while is one thing, but all the time would start to freak me out and also annoy me. I don't think that I could live in a house that was haunted by unsettled spirits or with too much angry energy, I've watched way too many shows and stuff and felt stuff to want to have to deal with an angry ghost/spirit. Some of you act like it was no big deal, and maybe it wasn't to you... maybe the paranormal is more "normal" than we think, more commonplace.
I love hearing from all of you on this, and thank you for those who have been posting. It's so much better than the typical horror story or movie when you can see people's experiences in real life. I still think it's sad how many lives are taken every year by murder and through senseless crimes... so I know that there must be a lot of these instances where spirits seem "lost" without closure.

I am fascinated by the paranormal research done into the subject and as of yet conventional science has a hardtime understanding such things and occurences.
As I stated earlier there are people like TAPS who go into houses with the goal of providing proof scientifically of the existence of ghosts.
They try to ignore the hearsay and they find the evidence through sensor readings and so on.
Alot of times they find things and it is clear that there is indeed somthing whether we call it spirits or ghosts.

The ghosts I've lived with never bothered us much. The one who lives in my parent's bar is angry as she was murdered and the killer was never caught, but she's never been a problem with us. Though from what I understand she's caused problems for other people. We're lucky that she likes us.
And the one in the house I grew up in, is the person whom the house was built for. She loves the place too much to leave and while she'll occassionally play tricks, she was never anything but kind to us. She even left a gift for my younger sister when she was born.
I think that if you live with ghosts/spirits it just becomes part of your usual routine. It's really no different from living with people.

I grew up in a haunted house.. and every place I have lived since has been haunted to one degree or another.. as a kid I assumed everyone lived with ghosts/spirits.. so for me it has always been part of my normal day to day life.

Pretty much every house I've lived in since birth has been haunted. The house I am living in now is right about 250 years old. It was built to house workers for the mills back in the mid-1700's. It's been in my husband's family since his grandparents had it, to the best of my knowledge. His grandmother died here. When she was alive, she used a walker. Every so often, we hear what sounds like her walking on the second floor, the precise sounds of her walker. I get a lot of peripheral stuff, movement out of the corner of my eye, e.t.c.. I sense things more than I see them. I also have very, very wierd dreams. The house I lived in back in Oregon before I moved with my husband over here was a trip! lol That was a lot more active than this house. Numerous people have heard footsteps coming from upstairs when no one was up there. The house was always, always cold no matter if it were in the dead of winter, or right smack dab in the center of a HOT summer. I had some truly horrific dreams in that house. There were a lot of peripheral experiences. One evening, as my sister was putting her children to bed, I saw a tall, dark shadowy form come out of her room, and go toward the kitchen. It was out of the corner of my eye, so I asked her what she was doing, and it turned out that she'd been in her room the whole time. There were a few experiences of that sort. When I had knee surgery and was laid up in a room downstairs(coincidentally the room my sister had been in before she moved out with her little ones), I would be woken up in the middle of the night, wide awake, and feel this overwhelming sense that someone was standing right there next to the bed, looking at me. Just an overwhelming sense. A lot of people sensed some wierd things in that house. The one we lived in before that was roughly 150 years old, an old farmhouse with a barn on a couple of acres, really beautiful property. I don't know the history of the house other than there had been a balcony on the second floor at one time which had been boarded up for some reason or another. The room adjacent to where the balcony had been, where my sister and I slept, was ALWAYS ice cold. I mean chill you to your core kind of icy coldness. I woke up one night to find that I couldn't move, breathe, talk, or anything, and I felt like something was pressing down on my chest, a truly horrible feeling. I tried desperately to pray (was a Christian at the time), and it eventually faded away. Another night, I woke about 1 am. My bed was against the wall, across from the four slender windows on the opposite wall. Keep in mind this was way out in the Oregon countryside, so it was very dark at night unless a car passed. I saw a tall, pitch black figure come out of the part of the wall which had been boarded up along with the balcony. It moved slowly across the windows until it reached the other side, and vanished. I always felt a horrible presence in that house, as did others. The most horrible experience I had in that house was when I was leaving the room one evening. There was a staircase right next to the bedroom, and as I went to go down the stairs, I literally felt something push me, hard. I tumbled down the stairs, and had a very difficult time walking for about a week afterward. These are only a few of the wierd experiences that have happened as far as the houses I've lived in. I've always picked up on presences, details about them, e.t.c.. so in a sense it almost feels natural to feel them near, but it doesn't make it any less chilling at times.

I woke up one night to find that I couldn't move, breathe, talk, or anything, and I felt like something was pressing down on my chest, a truly horrible feeling... This reminds me of a story my cousin told me about. We just finished renovating a house that was built in the 60s, and we also happen to live in it right now (until it has a buyer). Well this house was only owned by one owner, and before I got here back in February, my cousin told me that he had heard what sounded like banging of the water pipes downstairs (loud banging like with a hammer) and when he went down to check on it, it stopped completely. This happened over and over and one night he sensed a presence and said that he felt a chill... he could not lift his body up out of his bed as if something was pinning him down. He said it was hard to breathe and it was just a very uncomfortable feeling. My cuz even knew that it was a female ghost because it did not try to strangle him or anything just made sure he knew that her presence was felt. This happened for about 2-3 days and he just had to get out of the house, and he couldn't stay there alone for 2 weeks because it was just so shocking to him that he had experienced that sort of thing. Honestly, it would have freaked me out too if I had been here to experience it. Luckily for us, we have not had any instances of a ghost since then. I heard recently from the neighbors who came over to check out the house that the former owner's wife had died not too long ago... I wonder if that could be the ghost. Oh, also my cuz took a picture on his digital camera and it came up with a smoky film that looked all white and willowy, its one of the craziest pictures I've seen because you can see other pictures of the house at the time and it is clear as day. My cuz said that if you open your mind to be susceptable to spirits then you allow the unknown to get ahold of you and sometimes you cannot reverse it. Our minds are very powerful tools and can create a myriad of situations with spirits and just in general through thoughts.
In regards to TAPS, or the ghosthunters, I think it would be really cool to go hunting after them just as long as I don't have to live with them for periods of time. I commend those of you who can live with ghosts as part of everyday life; however, it's not for everyone 8O

it isnt freaky when you are used to see them
its like living in a certain neighbourhood. for someone from the outside, some neighbourhoods are strange, be it because they are violent, poor or just "closed" societies. but when you grow up in such an environment, or settle there with a relatively open mind, than its just usual stuff.
its a difference though, when the agressions turn versus yourself. than the boundaries of tolerable are way stepped across, and you have to take actions.
like you wouldnt want your robber neighbour to break into your home, you would maybe set up a defence, alert system, have a guarding dog etc. likewise, when the ghosts start attacking you or being a pain, you just have to take (or let someone specialized in this take ) the right measures.

The light switch turns on, the tv flickers, there are little energy orbs when taking pictures.
Argh. All of the 'orbs' I've seen are nothing more than insects or dust particles outside of the zone of focus which have been illuminated by a camera flash. Orbs are BS.
The TV flickering could be a bad connection, wiring, or any number of things.
The light switch turning on -- now that's a good one. Still, I wish people would be more skeptical when looking at paranormal claims.

I believe in them and I think they try to communicate sometimes. For 7 days after my grandma died (who I was very close to) a lightbulb burned out each day. It was always a different room. The last day that a bulb went out it was in her bedroom. The light didn't just go out it actually burst and glass went everywhere. After that and a few dreams I think she didn't come around as much. It was as if once I wasn't in extreme mourning anymore she didn't need to remind me she was still there.
I have experiences with other beings, whether they are all ghosts I'm not sure but I have radios turn way way up all of a sudden. Lightbulbs will get really bright for a few seconds then dim back down. Last night in fact I felt a presence in my dark dining room and when I flipped the switch the bulb went out. I use to get scared when stuff like that happened but now I sort of feel excited. I guess because I'm old enough to handle it now.

Most mediums distinguish between spirits and ghosts. Not everyone is stuck, lots of people (and animals!) just seem to like visiting.
Suggested reading: James van Praaugh, Allison DuBois, John Edward, Sylvia Browne, Buckland's Book of Spirit Communication and The Spirit Book by Ray Buckland.
Here is a fantastic site:
http://www.ghosts.org
and another wonderful collection of anecdotes that people sent in to the Grateful Dead's wonderful, wonderful lyricist, Robert Hunter:
http://www.dead.net/RobertHunterArchive/files/hjx/library.html
I absolutely believe that there is much more going on than we are getting with out little five senses. I have seen spirit lights, been present when a large glass ashtray just shattered all by itself for "no reason" (it didn't fall, nothing fell on it and it had no fire in it, it was only being used to hold jewelry, coins, and a few other small objects), heard fiddle music in my bathroom, angelic choirs at my childhood home, smelled sandalwood in my back yard, heard the mourning dove when an old friend of mine passed, heard this same friend tell me, as I was wondering what the next world was like for him, "It's nice, you're gonna like it", been visited in dreams, caught in the air as a child, other things I can't immediately call to mind, and I can see in a crystal ball.
All of these (not to mention the things I have heard and read from good, honest people who are not known for making things up or being delusional) amount to more than an isolated incident or two.
So yes, I believe.

I guess there really are Mediums out there, it's just I never thought I would actually get to meet any of them. There are plenty of shows on TV nowadays about Mediums and how they help out in real life, but its always cool to experience the real deal.
