Has anyone ever see/heard/experienced a pet or animal ghost?
I know it happens. I've read about it.
For example:
Pet Ghosts: Animal Encounters from Beyond the Grave (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1564148882/sr=8-1/qid=1151985844/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-0144812-7797754?ie=UTF8) by Joshua P. Warren
Ghost Stories of Pets and Animals (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1894877365/sr=8-3/qid=1151985844/ref=sr_1_3/102-0144812-7797754?ie=UTF8) by Darren Zenko
and various posts online.
I was hoping Fitty (my passed cat) would come back. I mean I know it's better she doesn't, she should move on to her next step in her journey...but I can't help to want to see her, you know. There were a few times I thought I saw something out of the corner or my eye but it was gone in a second.
There were a few times when her son, Mulder, would look at something that seemed to be there and break out into a one sided westle (they used to play like that). I know cats can pick things up spirit wise and I often wondered if she was showing herself to him. He just had a look of looking at something, something I couldn't see.
Anyway, maybe one day she'll show herself to me...or I'll meet her later on in this life as something else.
Anyone have any animal/pet ghosts stories?

Yep!
I know there are ghost cats on my bed as I've seen and felt them. They don't harm anything except the alive cats that are sometimes too afraid to enter my bedroom. My cat hisses at one of them whenever it comes near.
There are at least 3-4 ghost dogs hanging around. They all used to live with us and haven't "moved on". It's also because we haven't let them go yet.
I've seen them sleeping on the lounge and outside, under our verandah.

Wow, that's a lot!
Do you have any idea what happened to them--why they might have stayed?

Outside our home, we have a lot of cats hanging around. We had a mouse problem once, and they came for that and never left. When I was a little kid, I used to open up the front door for all the neighbourhood cats, and they would go into my older brothers bedroom (my room now) and sleep. My next door neighbour (who owns the cats) doesn't let them inside so they used to come into our house. A lot of the older cats still want to come in but they're not allowed to. I think its just a continuation of how they used to act when they were alive, so they come in and sleep on my bed now. It was a comfortable place where they felt safe (until my parents caught on).
At the start, it was weird because I could see and feel these cats but now its just normal. My own cat, who is very much alive, is used to them as well but she doesn't like a couple. At the beginning, she was afraid but she quietened down a lot. My mothers cat was so afraid that she couldn't step into the bedroom. She's okay now but she's still too afraid to stay for a long period of time.
The dogs all used to belong to us at one stage. The biggest "dog ghost" is Susie, our labrador cross. Even though she had diabetes, her death was sudden and I don't think she realizes she's dead. My mum has seen her running along the back fence and sleeping under our water tank on numerous occasions. Another dog is Lady who died in my bedroom 4 years ago. She still wanders around the kitchen, smelling the floor for food like she used to do. She died of a sudden heart attack. Flea was another dog who died abruptly of a breathing condition. My dad has seen him on his bed, scratching and biting the blankets. Theres another one that hangs around the street but I don't really know because I've only seen it twice.
I think these dogs stayed on because my family and I really haven't let go of them. In some way, we still grieve for them and this allows them to continual being here. Also, they feel comfortable and loved here.

I've heard horses at a Civil War battlefield at 3 in the morning.

The other day I noticed a ghost bunny or cat cross the highway by our house to visit the graveyard. It came by a couple times. Gave me the creeps, since I have never seen a ghost animal before.
My wife thinks it's unusual for pets to linger around.

I've been around stuff like that alot, but I don't remember ever having experienced an animal ghost before.
That's pretty unusual.

that for some reason doesn't seem unusual though, anyone else agree?

I don't think I have. I went through a lot of pets as a kid what with living on a farm and all. I don't think I ever saw any of them after their demise though. I had one wonderful cat that got sick and died a year after I moved away to college. She and I were bonded so close together but I gave her to my Grandma for selfish reasons. I never saw her after she died and I kind of feel like she moved on quickly from me afterwards because I abandoned her.

I'm sure that wasn't the case at all.
The college thing can be pretty demanding, so I wouldn't think that your decision was selfish.

Ah it was. :( I got rid of her before I left and the last time I saw her she slept on my grandma's couch and I just held her and cried. See she was an oriental short hair which has a mentality of a simese and I was her best friend and the only one she'd let near her. I should have found a way, lived off campus or something. Made my ex-rapist (or boyfriend if you prefer) take her. God knows he would have killed her or something though. Meh.

Sometimes we think we are making the right decision at the time, we just don't know how things will turn out. She might have died even if you had kept her. I'm sure your grandma took as good of care of her as she could.
I have ghost kitties also.

My mom had a calico named Dolly that ended up being put to sleep when she was 18. I saw Dolly several times in the house and yard afterwards. It was a couple months before I stopped seeing her.
My kids hamster died last year, and i've seen him running around the livingroom a few times.
there's a bunch more but it'd take too long to type them all out. :)

We've had the ghost kitties, dogs and a wolf.. and one of my dogs (Missy Boo) was reincarnated (Rhiannon).. how am I sure?.. well.. Rhian "knew" everything Boo did.. does the same cat face washing (licking her paws and rubbing her face).. knew where Boo's favorite toys were.. is basically a carbon copy of her except for looks. And to top it off.. i called her Boo one day and she came running over and sat down wondering what I wanted. Now you can argue that she was just responding to my voice.. but when you have multiple dogs, cats, critters and talk to them all day or call them.. well.. it would seem she would respond to everything and not just an odd name you called out.

I don't know if this was a definite visitation, but I felt deeply that it was. As a child, I had a miniature doberman pinscher. When I was only about 10, he was hit and run over on the road behind our home. Directly after he passed, I had a vivid dream where I was standing in a cemetery, the dog nearby me, just staring at me. After a few moments, he turned and left. I felt, for whatever reason, that it was his way of saying goodbye. Whether it was merely a dream or otherwise, I do believe that animals can hang around in just the same way people do.

I believe our house has a ghost cat. I've seen it twice and two different people have seen it when staying here. I wish I would see it more often actually.

When I was 7 my best friend was my tortoise, Myrtle. I would talk to her and felt she could talk to me, and she'd come to me when I called her name, etc. She was my life and I still love her to this day. She got sick, from what I'll never know, but I always blamed myself for it because I didn't pay as much attention to her growing up as I should have (I spent more time with our new bird).
I was laying in bed and felt this overwhelming sense of grief mixed with love all the sudden and saw an image in my mind of her leaving this world, I remember a lot of light and this really warm feeling. I told her how much I loved her and that I'm sorry if any ignorance on my part caused her death. I woke up my parents to tell them she was gone and sure enough, when I went downstairs to check on her, she had passed.
A few years later, my friends and I were trying to catch a stray cat in their yard when my father pulled up to take me home. On the way, we stopped to pick up my brother from work. At his work I was walking around and saw a stuffed humpback whale and something about it just drew me. I picked it up and all the sudden had this overwhelming feeling of HER and had to buy it, haha. I could just feel her there like this huge warm hug. I still have the whale today and her name, of course, is Myrtle.
On a side note, I find it comforting that I found the plush whale on a night I was trying to rescue a stray cat, because my cat that found me a year ago was a stray and her personality somewhat reminds me of Myrtle :)
Myrtle was my friend and above all one of my greatest teachers :) I'm honered to have known her.

our kitty, Orbit, was born on halloween. my mom brought her home shortly after my parents had gotten married, and she was the sweetest cat. she died when she was 13, from being attacked by a dog. most of the dreams that i had about her after her death were rather grotesque, i don't think they had anything to do with her, i think they were just some weird part of my mourning process... but my dad and i had both experienced seeing a little black furball curled up sleeping in "her spot" on the carpet on various occasions. we had seen a black ball jet past us in the hallway, and had other experiences with her. those occurances stopped a little over a year ago, shortly before we got our cat, Mordred. we were fostering him for our rescue group. he was just a few weeks old, but looked identical to Orbit (not just because of his coat, his face shape and body structure is identical. i recently found an old photo of orbit, and i honestly thought it was a picture of mordred, except that it was at my parents condo, where they lived before i was born.) Mordred did the exact same things that Orbit did. orbit would sit on my dad's shoulder and go for a ride every morning. every day, mordred will leap onto my brother's shoulder. his voice is surprisingly high pitched, even for a neutered male, but its the same voice that orbit had. orbit is defitely orbit, reincarnated. she came back to us.
