Wow! :boing: The different uniforms each country had had to be my fave part of that (favest goes to the Swiss... ;) I give that a  !)
The noise... :ahhhh: Wow.. <- That's the best word I can think of!

did anyone else notice that from above, the shape of the arena was the Goddess?
i couldn't figure out what the curves and shapes were at first, but then they showed an aerial view, and her round hips and outstretched arms were quite apparent!
i normally don't like these big production things (half-time at the Superbowl is always a joke), but this was really good. the drum circle in the elemental colors was very interesting too.
i wasn't expecting much, since the whole thing has been so politicized this year. the Olympics is supposed to be about breaking down borders and barriers, not psuedo-patriotic posturing.
but i think they did a great job. and all my favorite music! (Copeland, Stravinsky and Beethoven!)

It brought tears to my eyes! :D I love the fact that with each passing Olympics, it gets more global with more smaller countries competing. I was so proud when they announced Hong Kong competing for the first time! Heh! I'll still cheer for Canada, though.

I watched part of it. After Robbie Robertson & Walala sang, I turned in. (My alarm clock was set for 3:45 a.m.)
I like to see how many nations only send 1 or 2 athletes.
Did you see the one from Bermuda? In shorts!!!!

I think all the Native American dancing & drum circle was my favorite part of all. It was beautiful. I also got a kick out of the young woman, who handed her cell phone to the President while he was sitting next her in the stands.

The guys from the 80 Hockey Team, made me grin. Cause I just LOVE those guys. They are the reason why I love hockey so much (that & my uncle Pete).

Watching the ceremonies with two 10 year olds, however, can grate on your nerves. I never heard so much whinning. "Who are they?" "Are they friends with Afghanastan" "Look how many people they have." "Why isn't it done yet" "This is stupid" grrrrrrrrrr....unfortuneately, I could only threaten one with bodily harm (my son). The hardest part is trying to explain why it was such a big deal for us to beat the Russians back in 1980. The can't grasp the concept of the "Soviet Union". Which makes me feel very VERY old.
