If all life on the earth were snuffed out, nuclear war, super volcanoes, etc, and the conditions on the earth made it nearly impossible for any life to exist....what would happen to our souls? those who still need to go through a few more lives to learn a few more lessons, if the earth itself has a spirit...will it.. die?
Just wondering what others thought about this

Nice question to spark some conversation.
I guess I'm on the thought that nothing ever really "dies", it just changes and takes on another form. For example... our bodies are also made up of the same matter our souls are, only formed into a different density, so when we die, we slowly change energetically and return to the earth, through which new life is born. I think this can happen on a Universal scale too... when a planet or star (and perhaps other lifeforms out there too) die, the energy used to form them, is changed and re-used, or reformed into something else.
Who, what or how this grand recyling/reforming business is done is still somewhere yet to be found in my brain...
Perhaps this earth and all life as we know it would no longer exist, but I'm sure some change would occur and the energy form something elsewhere.
Perhaps we'd all end up living on Saturn! I've always liked Saturn...
Thats my superficial 2 cents worth anyway.

The universe is a big place, Azul... why is it you seem to think that reincarnation is limited to our lonely planet?

I dont think his question is limited to just our planet. I'd like to hear your thoughts, Xentor - and yours too, Azul.

Dude...this is seriously an awesome question. Why didn't I think of this...?

my 2 cents....
Our world is a big place...I don't think we die..things just change and all changes can happen at once or one at a time.If our world was involved in something devistating then everthing would change at the same time. till then we change one at a time....
but that was a deep question

You already have an idea of my thoughts, fangedeshana:

Since the entirity of this universe seems connected by shared energy and matter (one can look up numerous scientific sources to back this claim), I like to believe that the entirity of this universe is involved in the reincarnation process. No limit to human or animal form. All beings share that energy (otherwise they wouldn't be), thus reincarnation can occur from any being into any being. From human to tree, to brick, to planet, to owl, to interstellar dust particle (not necessarily in that order ;) ).

Agreed.

Nothing ever fully dies. The energy will always be and our "souls" will still be around. Life will continue, it always will.

Gaia would still be alive. It would take alot to kill Her off, if anything. I think our 'souls' or 'energy' would return to Gaia and pretty much stay there, until life (or if life) came back.
In regards to reincarnation on other planets...I believe our energy is part of Gaia, which is the big energy of this planet. I think the only way our energy would be able to get to another planet or energy source is if the Earth blew up or something and Gaia was scattered.

Why did you quote the word 'souls'?

Same question for you. Why did you quote the word 'souls'?

I'm still not sure on what a soul really is or whether it dies with us. I haven't really firmed my beliefs on that topic.

People call our energies different things; souls, energies, essences etc. Souls isn't the word I would use personally in conversation, so I guess I was quoting the people that do.

My spirit isnt earth bound, only my body is.
Heck, my spirit isnt bound to anything physical!

That's quite thoughtful. What word would you use?

Energy. The word 'soul' to me makes me think it's unique, but our energy to me is just that. Energy. Neutral. It doesn't carry the personality of someone IMO.

That's very similar to my own definition.
But now I'm seeing a paradox.
what would happen to our souls? those who still need to go through a few more lives to learn a few more lessons...
How can we discuss personal life lessons and reincarnation, when we stop attributing a personal, unique quality?
If there were no personal, unique quality, doesn't that make the energy indifferent? Then how can it belong to Gaia? What stops it from simply moving to any other planet upon her demise?

Here's how I see it:
Gaia. One big energy that's in everything, around everything on this planet. The energy tied to this planet. Neutral. Ungendered (although I usually refer to Gaia as female, as a Mother Earth figure. But that's just me).
The energy within us is part of Gaia, as it is in everything else. Neutral, ungendered energy. It has no personality. It's pretty much just *there*.
Which is why I don't believe that the 'soul' or energy has life lessons to learn. Any lessons we do learn are for this life, not the next one or the one after. We could well learn the same lessons over and over again.
The energy just moves on once the body of the living thing it's inhabiting dies (if it's in a living that is); returning to Gaia and being used again somewhere else, whether it be for a living creature or the formation of a new mountain range *shrug*.
As for the energy moving to other planets, I believe the energy, Gaia, is tied to this gigantic sphere of rock known as Earth, just has our energy is tied to us.
That's just what I think :hahugh:

I firmly believe that the earth is not the only place for souls to reincarnate- which I believe is why the earths population can keep growing. I therefore believe that our souls would simply reincarnate on other planets and spheres.

Which makes me think, assuming reincarnation is real, ( I still don't know what my beliefs are.) we all, or at least some of us, could be "aliens." It's very possible that some distant planet that had life has already perished leaving the "souls" with no place to go. Maybe they came here. :) Wait....haha. That's KIND of like what the scientologists believe isn't it?

well don't count out the possibility of reincarnating in another plane of existance, plus this one is unimaginably huge so there is probably some form of life somewhere else... or maybe since time is relative anyways we'll just reincarnate in the past or something... interesting brain food anyways
