Hello, everyone,
I've got a little problem here...
The other day I was reading about candle magic.
It was a whole ritual with oils and so on.
But do you put the oils in the candle while burning?
Is it necessairy to use oils for a candle spell?
Could you help me out?

It really depends on your spell and what you want. Sometimes, I annoint the candle with the oil before burning...either rub the oils on or trace out symbols & runes as part of the spell. I've even done that as the candle was burning.
And sometimes, I drop the oil into the pool of liquid wax & let the scent permeates the air as part of the spell. I would let the candle burn for a bit until there's a pool of liquid wax around the flame & them carefully put drops of the oil blend into the wax. You have to be careful not to drop the oil directly onto the flame. It could cause the flame to flare up & burn you.

It has lots of correspondances, and info on how to dress a candle.
Frankly, I'm not a great follower of always having the right coloured candles, and lots of expensive oils. I use ordinary white taper candles for everything (they're cheap!) and virgin olive oil to dress it (although I'm going to try Wildchild's idea with some Lavender Oil sometime!). It's the intent behind the spell that does the trick, and if you can focus without having to fork out a fortune on funny coulred candles and lots of expensive oils, so much the better. I use a candle to meditate with every day anyway, so I'm pretty drawn to candle magic.

... is probably the easiest way to start on a magical path. There's omething about candle lighting that is a ritual itself, probably because we are all so used to doing it when there's a power cut! I light candles every night, not just for meditation or magic, but just because I love the light they give. Restful and soothing.

There's a couple of book recomendations for candle magick in the Book Forum you might want to check out too.
I don't use different coloured candles either. I usually use beeswax candles. I love the scent of those! :p

I personally will annoint my candle with the appropriate oil for my spell or ritual before lighting it. I start in the middle of the candle and rub up and then from the middle down.
This has always been the most helpful for me.
Blessed Be.
