I seem to be considered a hedge witch no matter how it is defined, so it's a useful description for my practice... I'm also pretty happy playing in the dirt with my herbs, so perhaps I'm a green witch as well? :)

Cheers,

Really only use low magic, sympathetic magic, simples, charms, sachets, etc. Great to see this subforum!!!

Um... hi! I'm Kira and I've a very new very very recent Green Witch/Hedge Witch. I'm still trying to figure some stuff out. I'm a hybrid Lutheran and Green Witch. I am still researching quite a bit.

I think I've always had tendencies toward green witchery, but they just weren't recognized or focused. Because as soon as I started looking into it I found myself saying, "Hey, I've done that all my life." *shrug*

Um... I hope the board isn't dead because you guys sound really informative.

Thanks! :imout:

I am a green witch. Don't consider myself a hedge witch, as I don't travel across the hedge, as it were. =P I love my herbs, and anything herbal related. Although I have only considered myself a green witch for a few months now. Loving it though! Finally feel at home. :cutie:

I didn't know there was a rollcall!

I call myself (jokingly) a Reclapananimist Cottabu: my main influences are Relaiming tradition witchcraft, naturalistic pantheism, bioregional animism, cottage witchery, and Zen Buddhism. I use "cottage witch" more often than "green witch" because that part of my practice encompasses such a wide range of daily duties - cooking, cleaning, yardcare, neighborhood involvement, etc. And also because I have a big ol' black thumb.

I suppose I am a Hedge/Kitchen/Green Witch. I work extensively to learn herbs for both health and magick. I try to connect with the Ancients in nature as often as I can, wildcrafting (it's MUSHROOM time!!!), working with sachets, candles, plankets, oils, etc. But I also work with the Runes and do some Shamanic work.
I love this site because I get to learn from all of you!

RubyFire

I've always been connected to the plants & trees & non-Human animals nearby. I didn't know this, my family didn't tell me that I was picking up & feeling my local environment, my "bubble field", only about 100 foot radius. I garden, I can turn stuff into something 'magickal', they call it 'low magick' but I call it life magick.

Just remember, doesn't matter how green-fingered you are, you can't help at least SOME plants dying! And some will never grow for you. I have tried, and tried, and tried, but I can't grow carrots to save my life. Onions, on the other hand, they love me!

Good luck with the gardening and growing!

That's like me and cilantro. I can grow every other herb just fine, but cilantro just keels over dead. Tomatoes, eggplants, cukes and poblano peppers are my 'children', they always grow like mad with huge yields.

I DO feel more connected to this general path, I grew up growing things (while also attending a Lutheran church), & I still feel drawn to plants & spices. I don't cook very much, but I use plants in other ways. A rose bouquet can be used......in a few ways. I have 1 orange tree, 2 peach trees, & 1 fig tree-except for the orange all are dwarf trees. I'm waffling over getting a thornless boysenberry.

I finally got an Eriobotrya japonica because of the honey-scent it emits around Halloween, & a Magnolia stellata-for the blooms it gives in Febuary. I am slowly collecting plants that flower in winter & fall, & preferably scented ones. I suppose it has significance, in that these plants are 'awake' when the summer/spring plants are 'asleep'.

March 30th, 2010, 12:14 AM
I'm not sure how I define myself yet, but I am sure I belong here somewhere!! I am always growing things and finding uses for expired blooms, making handicrafts from natural goods, and cooking with spices...some of which I have grown myself. My home, the animals there, and the outdoors and garden are where my heart is.

I look forward to learning more as I grow here and in the mundane world!

Blessings,
Clair

Like most of you here, putting my practice in a neat labeled package or defining myself with a single word is a challenge. That being said, Hedgewitch is the closest association I have to an identifiable path. I am reluctant to even post this... you frequently hear of people saying things like " my great g-mother was an Indian princess.." it makes me cringe. My mother is full Cherokee, there are no princesses in our past.

But I digress, as I was saying... I am reluctant to post this but my path began as a young child, on the skirt tails of my Grandmother, my fathers mother. A Southern Appalachian of German and Welsh descent. She delivered babies thru out the 40's and 50's... raised everything she ate, canned, smoked meat, grew herbs, always carried a pocket knife and basket, gathered herbs, roots and plants... made poultices, salves, tinctures, soaps and teas.. was a douser, solved domestic problems and was the wisest woman in the hollar and county... She was a Christian but never attended church, she always said.. "I can talk to God right here on my porch and don't need some fancy man in a suit to tell me what the good Lord is saying".. she often quoted scriptures while she was making her medicine, over the sick and before taking on any special project...

As I grew, I quickly realized organized religion was not for me... but I tried.. I practice most of what she taught me.. she called it her "ways".. I am not a douser but I am a seer and intuit. I love my herbs, my copper pots and cast iron pans, my wood cookstove, my pantry of mason jars filled with this and that.. the smell of mossy woods and the cleansing coolness of the creek are my calls to home. I still live in Appalachia, not far from the homeplace..

I am a monotheist and animist... i feel that the Creator is one, all encompassing.. with a vast many faces.. unique to each of it creations..

I look forward to reading and sharing with you all..

Blessings.

I've always been drawn to this path. Only over the past few years did I learn it actually had a name.

I'm starting my very first mini garden outside this spring. Hopefully some stuff grows in the desert climate I'm in.

March 3rd, 2011, 05:52 PM
I would say that green or hearth witch would best describe me. It's my opinion that traditional witchcraft falls well within the definition of green witch. Traditionally, witches in days of yore were healers and hearth witches, which seems like the kind of witch you are all talking about here. Using simple spells and natural items (herbs, oils, stones, etc) as part of the spells.

It's my understanding that hedge witchery involves the use of the spirit world, and involving the deceased in a divination type of working. Hedge witches are known to use hallucinogens as an aid to trance workings. To me, this separates hedge witchery from green witchery, though I guess you can probably be both. I think it is a very common misconception to equate hedge witchery to green witchery.

Thoughts?

I'm Tameran Wiccan but I'm now learning about herbs and stuff. So I guess I'm sort of a green witch. Right now I'm focus on learning how to make my own potpourri and some healing herbal mixes. If anyone knows a good book on herbal healing, let me know.

Also I wasn't interested in posting as I didn't want it to sound like one thing and it isn't like that.
