Do you want to pet a rat, but not know how to do it? Here is a video explaining two simple techniques:

awwww :) Sneezy looooves it when I scratch the top of his head, and then just under the left side of his chin. Some light scratching along between the ears and along the back is always loved by ratties.

Hurley isn't used to petting just yet, but I'll work with him.

LOL! That was TOO funny! :yayah:

I would LOVE to own one of those huge rats! I understand that there are a few exotic varieties from Africa that are the size of small dogs-but all we ever seem to find here in the U.S. are the normal sized animals.

We have owned several rats, and we currently have a wonderful pair of females named Charlotte and Pixie. While they both love to be held and carried around, it is Charlotte that really loves to be petted. I can scratch her head as though she were a dog, and she absolutely loves it! Pixie would rather hold and lick your fingers.

I cannot say enough about these wonderful, loving creatures. They are easily just as intelligent as dogs are.

Standard norway rats (the kind that most keep as pets) can get as large as the ones he had there -- in fact, I'd wager that's what they are -- standard pet rats, just very large and well-fed. :) I've seen similarly-sized rats in NYC subways.

I'd love to find a rat breeder who's been working on breeding for size. ;)

Yha.... those looked like about 3 pounders! We had a few that big.
There are always problems with breeding for a larger size. First and hardest is finding females that can handle it. We had a 5 pound Giana Pig we tried breeding.... we lost 3 females with birthing issues, even though we got the largest healthiest females we could find. We also made sure they had had at least 2 litters. We gave up, too risky.

OK, happy note! I think we should make some videos like that! LOL
