Okay..this may be a wierd question. I know that using the Greek pantheons, we can often discover some affilliations between Gods and Goddesses, and physical organs. Such as Mercury possibly governing Lungs (Air). Does anyone else know of any such affinities in other pantheons?
I don't have much connection to the Greco-Roman paths, and yet, i would like to find a God or Goddess, who could specifically correlate to Air/Lungs etc, to call upon for my physical illness having to do with my lungs.
I mean..i know that my Patron God and Goddess will look out for me, and my lungs..but..i'm still curious.

Perhaps Mercury/Hermes would be a good deity to have on your side if you are sick. If you notice in art work, Hermes holds the staff with a snake around it. The medical association in the US has adopted that as their symbol. Remember that Hermes was the a god of medicine also. If you are ill, you can ask any god of healing for help; you don't just need to look for a god of air/lungs. A good god of healing would be Asclepius. Hope this helps a little. Get better soon!

Thanks..that's a good idea.
Actually...I think that Brighid is the patron goddess of healing, in the Celtic Pantheon. So I guess I really *Don't* need to look any further :)
Sometimes, my common sense just flies right out the window :)

Any of the gods of the Egyptians could be called on in healing spells, but Thoth (Djehuty) was one of the most frequently called on, and the Romans associated him with Hermes so that was a pretty good idea. :-)
Each of the canopic jars (the jars that held the organs of a mummified person) was associated with a specific Egyptian god, too. And so the organ in that jar was associated with that deity. (Sorry about not having that information on hand, but I'll try to look it up.)

ummmm... I know the zodiac signs are associated with certain areas of the body. Perhaps you could find a diety associated with the sign that governs the chest? Or even a wind or air type god if it's the lungs....
Hope this helps!

Took me forever and a day, but here is what I said I'd look up about Egyptian organ affliations.
Each organ was watched over by a particular Son of Horus:
Duamatef was a jackel-headed god who guarded the stomach.
Quefsnuf was the hawk-headed god who guarded the intestines.
Imsety was a human-headed god who guarded the liver.
Hapi was a baboon-headed god who guarded the lungs.

Yeah, I read about that information in the Eyewitness Mummy book. The book mentions that these Egyptian gods guarded the organs when the person was mummified, so they could have the organs in the afterlife. If a person is living, would the person still look to these gods to keep them healthy, or are these gods just associated with these organs in death?
