I recently bought a rather substantial addition to my stone collection, which included a lot of items I'd been after for a while :). However, one piece in particular is puzzling me, so I thought I'd seek the knowledge of the stone genii here!

I think it's a type of azurite - it has the same appearance (ie texture, formation, structure), but it's very dark in appearance. Can azurite be a dark blue? I've Google image searched it, but all the stones there are a medium to dark royal blue, and this stone is navy-ish.

Here's a photograph, but it isn't very good, so it may not be of much use!

That picture's horrible; I can't tell what I'm looking at. Yes, Azurite can be dark. But I thought at first when looking at the thumbnail that that was a piece of peacock copper. I can't tell, though, 'cause, well, I can't see the structure, just a blob of different colors. ;)

Yeah, sorry, my camera doesn't like doing close focus (VERY bad camera :p).

It's definitely not bornite, though. I'm pretty sure it's azurite, I just wasn't sure if azurite could be that dark.

Thank you!

Looks like azurite to me through the blurriness :spaceman: I have found the well defined crystalized azurite seems to be darker at times than the mass stuff.. here are 2 of my specimens to try and show the point.

The first picture is of a mass of Azurite. Its fairly light yet even here you can see some color variations.

The next picture is of a more defined crystallized form on Azurite and is much darker than the first. For the crystallized picture below I actually used a flourescent back light as well as the camera flash to try and have the light shine through these crystals yet even though its a small specimen the light would not penetrate the dark blue of the crystals.

Took the Azurite crystal outside and took a picture under natural sunlight... This really shows how dark it is.

Well I'm now pretty positive it is azurite! The only thing that I was unsure about was that it was so dark, but you guys have really helped.

Thank you very much!
