Anyone here have any Biblical roles models or anyone in the Bible (OT, NT, and Gnostic Gospels) that you look to or learned from (in a personal, greater sense that just learning from the Bible and its teachings)?
Do they have a part in your spirituality and path?
I'm just curious. :hahugh:

What sparked this was a site mentioning Esther as a role model--
"Queen Esther is a wonderful role model," noted Cliff Rockwood, "She used God-inspired wisdom and courage to overcome great adversity. By doing so, she saved her family, friends and herself from impending harm. Our hope is that by hearing her story, children will be inspired to have greater faith in our Lord, and remember to place other first."

Oh and on a side note there is a new Esther movie coming out (according
to Wiki) New Esther Movie Fall 2006 (http://queen-esther-movie.com/)

Oh and To branch out, I suppose role model can be applied to martyrs and saints as well...

I personaly like Mary Magdalene. From what I know about her, she was the only one who never doubted Jesus. She never questioned him. She always had faith in him. While the rest of the other disciples would bug him about is "political" agenda or what he reallly meant by what he said. Although it was a fabrication of one of the Popes that she was actually a prostitute, she still represents the woman who went through hell and back to find salvation with christ. I read a novel about the life of Mary Magdalene. Where it took what we do know about her (which is very little) and added in the tid bits we don't know by history. It was a fantastic book. The book really endeared me to her character.

Sorry to sound corny but Jesus is the role model and about the only person that comes to mind. Sure Moses did great things, his mother was awesome and I'm sure he had a cool dad

Now that I think about it, Job seemed, wow...and I think my life is tough, if he really did have that much faith after all that crap than geez I need to really need to suck some stuff in for a while. Even though I'm more of an evolutionists than a creationist and see Adam and Eve as a myth, I do like the Cain and Abel story (Abel rules, ), after some of the stuff I've been through in the past year it really speaks to me

I've seen that movie! It is really good! :boing:

As for role models, I've always looked up to Esther and the Virgin Mary. I've always liked the story of Joseph as well. Oh and David- he's always been a favorite of mine. :hahugh:

^^^ I'd put Joseph as well. Especially how he stood up for Mary.

I'm not Christian, and I don't really know many of the Biblical characters, but King David has always interested me (and not just 'cause he has the greatest name ever! ).

I think Herod represents people in power really. Of course, I don't like his tryign to kill Jesus. people in that kind of power, when threatened by someone like Jesus, want them dead. It represents how that works really.

I am interested in the movie on Esther now.

God and the egyptians? Something about the first born comes to mind...

Maybe if Herod would have prefaced it with something as campy as "I was sent by he who is called I am" he wouldn't get such a bad rap for something that isn't even documented anywhere but in the bible.

Enoch. He was 7th generation from Adam. A human showed all the secrets of all seven heavens. Then raise to an angel to have all the authority of god and to be his voice to humans and to the fallen, who he felt sorry for.

John of Patmos, the author of Revelation. Anyone who has visions like that would be good company.
