Vodou and balance?

Something that i got from the Complete Idiots guide to Voodoo is that Vodou is about 'balance', i think. It mentioned something about balance being healthy for the world (e.g. i think it was something like not too much 'good' or too much 'evil', light/dark, etc).

I was just wondering, is this true, i've also heard (not sure how true it is though), that after Hurricane Katrina, many Vodou practicioners said that the 'balance was gone' or something, is that true (even if it's not, i'd like to know if any Vodou practicioner has any particular take on Katrina, like did it have any effects on the mystical/supernatural/metaphysical level?).
