I like Valentine's Day, even though I'm usually alone.
My theory on Valentines Day:
You don't have to have a lovER on Valentine's Day, you just gotta' have someone that you love, and for me that's my friends and all you guys here at MW.
Happy Valentine's Day everyone! :p

It seems to serve as an impetus for manufacturers to make and the public to spend money.
Shouldn't we be celebrating love every single day?

Bah, Valentines Day!
Just makes the unloved undesirables such as myself feel unnecessarily pathetic!
Yay for bitterness.

 Alone doesn't have to be lonely. Treat yourself even better than you would a lover. :heartthro Happiness is being complete within yourself - another person enhances that happiness, but can not create it for you. Men are just desserts.

I think Valentine's Day is great fun. Candy hearts, goofy cartoon Valentines cards, envelopes all sugary from the cheap candy stuffed insde--people kissing and throwing sweet tarts at each other, overly sweet punch, sugary cookies and finger sandwhiches...
that's fun!

I strongly feel that love is the most important thing that humans are capable of. What would the Universe be without it? Valentines Day celebrates love. I don't believe you have to have a sweetheart to celebrate love. Do something special for yourself or those family/friends who you love. It doesn't even have to cost money. Sometimes the most precious gifts can't be found in a store. Of course love should be celebrated every day, but I think we need days that remind us of just how important love is.

While it's great to have a day where we emphasize love and although I have someone to love this year (and last year, too :)), shouldn't we express our love for each other all year round? It's great to get candy and flowers and to give love to someone(s), but we should be doing that anyway. I voted indifferent. It was just another day to me. I loved and was loved. :loveduv:
Love is all you need. ;)

I really dispise Valentine's Day...
Not because I'm always alone (which I'm not this year. only upside :)), but because we burried my Great-Grandmother on Valentine's Day `96 and its just weird :/
Other than that...its ok :) My b/f actually remembered it was Valentine's Day! hehe :) Its funny to watch all the husbands and boyfriends at the stores sweating bullets cuz they forgot. hehe

I actually had a really good Valentines Day. My buddy got me and this one dude to go to the dance together (this year he actually made sure we liked each other, he's forgotten to check that aspect of it before  ) . Yeah, but the world is coming to an end so that kind of sucks (he's a white boy and he can dance, yeah, we're all dead ;) ).
Valentines Day is a day when you get candy. Any day like that is a good day in my book. :D It don't matter if you're alone or not as long as you get candy, all is right with the world.

I voted "love it," because I would really love to love it. This is the first year in all my 25 that I have plans with someone on valentine's day, so we shall see!!!

I voted indifferent - It has become so commercialized (even tho I loooooove all the candy & chocolate). I'm solo this year so I'm stopping by the Godiva shop tomorrow on my way home from work to buy myself a small box of chocolates and I'm turning off my phone and not answering my door and I'm going to take a weekend to be by myself!

I'm indifferent.. I think people should celebrate love every day..
but then again it's nice to have a day where most people celebrate love more than they usually do... or you can do a little something for your friends, family, or sweet-heart that otherwise might be a little more goofy. ;)
Heart-shaped candies, cakes, cookies etc, baked or bought, are usually reserved for "special occasions" like birthdays, anniversaries, holidays.. sure it'd be nice to get one randomly but it's also nice to have a day dedicated wholly to love in all it's forms... ;)
I definately think it's way too commercialized though. My dad is wondering what jewelry to get mom for valentine's day. I myself am (and would be even if it'd been more than 2.5 months!) very happy to get a surprise yummy vegan meal that my boyfriend is spending /hours/ on - and won't tell me what it is!! - and all his effort to make his extra special dessert vegan just for me. To me, that's WAY better than anything he could buy!! :D

I agree that it's a commercial day, perfect for getting gullible people to pay horrific amounts of money for single roses. But, on the other hand, I celebrate Valentine's Day, if only because I love an excuse to get a bit of attention from my boyfriend, a meal that doens't involve the TV, followed by a film that I get to choose because, after all, Valentines Day is not for action sci-fis!!

I hate Valentine's day, it's stupid! Hallmark could have made a "Happily Single" day instead of Valentine's day..... Tho at the moment I'm not happy to be single. I'm the only single female in my whole group of friends, so of course I feel like the 5th wheel. Luckily this year I work so I wont have time to feel down.

I was all happy that there was a big horror film festival starting on valentine's day... lol.. I'm strange. I wish there were some good horror movies in theatres to go to - I'd much prefer that over some romantic bleh *giggle*
Shane was even going to take me to see something there.. too bad it's been postponed due to stupid people at the theatre deciding not to show the movies.. hmm.

Wow! This is an old thread. I really liked Freyja's point from last year that being alone doesn't mean that you have to be lonely. Since tomorrow is Valentines' Day, I'm going to treat myself extra special.
I'm impartial to the day- even when I did have a bf. I think that this day puts so much pressure on couples to do something really romantic. Usually, the day doesn't live up to the hype.

I voted...hate it..., not because I have no loveer, but because I think over the years it has become so commercialized.
I like the little suprises all throughout the year, and I like to celebrate love all year long.
Happy Valentines Day to everyone:D

Being the cynical female dog that I am, I view it just an overly commerialized day.
But for those who do enjoy it, I wish them a happy V day.

LOL, did I say that? I would have, because it's true. And after 15 years of being single and saying I'd never get married again, here I am :loveduv:
I'm totally broke and won't be able to buy Flar a gift til tomorrow - but we buy each other little gifts all the time - little things we see that we know the other would like.
Today, I'm just grateful to have found him and grateful that the Lord and Lady chose to bless me with such an awesome soul mate :heartthro

I didn't know how to vote--so I didn't.
Like everything else, V-Day is what you make it. Like Freyja said last year, "shouldn't we be celebrating love every single day?" Well, yes! It doesn't have to be sexual, soul-mate type love. It might be love for your best friend, it might be love for your family, it might even be love for your pets. But find a way to celebrate love.
Ignore the hype. Love grows when you give it away. Don't we all need more love?
Happy Valentine's Day, everyone. :heartthro

I love it, but that's probably only because it's the anniversary of the day I met my husband.
Before that, I didn't care one way or the other about it.

The modern interpretation of Valentine's Day has always come across to me as a cheesy, overcommericalized excuse to play romantic one day of the year. I'm in the "why can't it be like this everyday" boat. I hate to spoil other peoples' fun, but I just can't help but think it's sad to contrive an annual love-fest on marketed terms as a serious expression of affection. Whether it's friendly or sexual love, it just seems forced, and that's not heart-warming, or sexy at all.

I hate Valentines day. It's the day before my birthday so most of the tme it makes for a crappy weekend. Plus I get candy for my B-day. I'm not a huge candy fan. Also people like to try to set me up on dates.

Hahaha I must have voted on this last year, when I had a date for valentine's day. Actually that was the first time in all my 25 years thus far that I'd ever had a date on V-Day.
Now it's back to single life, and hating the holiday! ;-)

I voted indifferent. I like to show those I love year round that I love them. Not just one day of the year.
I also have never really had a great V-Day so it never really has mattered. It is just another day.

Ehh. Nice idea but it's just too much of a Hallmark Holiday. Personally, I enjoy giving flowers on days when they're not expected/anticipated much, much more.
