View Full Version : Snake in a bag

Anyone have an old aquarium or tank they aren't using? Mol took the big snake to Philly a few weeks ago and this giant 5'4 snake is living in a pillow case. It has already escaped once and went into the wall in the bathroom.
I didn't want to send the snake to him without him having a habitat ready for it but thought he would be able to get it set up before now. Now it has been long enough that I am worried about the snake. Mol wants to wait to feed him until he has an enclosure, understandably, but he needs more than a pillow case.
I thought maybe someone living nearby might have something to help. It is dangerous for the snake to get out and into the walls for various reasons. They live in an apartment building and most walls are connected so he could scare someone else and they could hurt him or he could decide a family pet is food. Several issues of concern. He needs an enclosure quickly.
If I had known it was going to take this long to set up proper housing for him I would have sent the snake to Ohio to the person who already had everything set up...or let him stay here where he was well cared for.
Anyway..just thought it was worth a shot.

I would ship the aquarium he was in but it would be almost as expensive as them getting a new one..and plus we are really wanting to house a new friend in there soon.
I was just hoping someone nearby had one they werent using perhaps.

what kind of snake is it?.. most Petsmarts have 20 gallon long tanks (blank tank no hood, filter or stand) for under $30.
mesh tops aren't that expensive.. some petshops will sell used ones for $5.

He is not living in a pillowcase. We have temporary arrangements for him and he is happy. And right now while I'm home he is spending most of the day running free in the room with me. In fact, he's been free since this morning and he's still curled up on the floor next to me. He's fine. Thank you for asking around for us though. It would be great to get him a nice home instead of the temporary one we have now.

This is great to hear! Maybe he never needs a tank and you guys can feed him in the bathtub and I can send you the heating element and he can just go curl up next to it when he wants and maybe you can litter box train him too._inabox_

If you guys wanted to take a drive to Massachusetts, you can have a 100-gallon (long) tank and stand for free. There's no hood, though, but the tank itself is perfectly good for a big snake. All you'd have to do is move it yourselves (without destroying my parents' house in the process).

I had a Haitian Boa that spent a huge amounts of its time lounging around the house.
I only had a scare with him once.
He was 6 feet and thin, as the Haitian Boas are, and he wrapped himself all in and out of the radiator. It was warm so he did not want to leave. It took a long time to get him, inch by inch coaxed out of that predicament!!!
After that, I made sure his giant heat rock was close to his bookshelf, resting spot!! Then he stopped wondering when he wanted to get a warm up!

I'll make sure mol sees this. I don't know how soon we would be able to make it up there. That would be an excuse to finally meet you though. I know he'd love that. :)

Wow! That would really suck! mol's snake likes to wrap around the posts to our four poster bed. And he seems to like the bookshelf too. We are using a heating pad for him right now to get him warm. He has a habit of crawling between the pillows so I have been putting the heating pad between the pillows for him to cuddle up to. He's such a cuddle baby. I call him our puppy. :)

LOL...a cute puppy I bet too!
That pillow set up sounds cozy as heck. My old snake would of loved something like that. I had never thought of it though! Darn, he loved going under the covers too. I think he would of liked pillows with heating a pad.
My old snake has been long gone since the later 70's I think. Still miss him though.

Well, this has been an interesting read! LOL
Hope you can get that tank.... sounds like it could be a sweet setup.
Good Luck to all!

**grins** Just remember, when/if you guys visit: No mentioning of the nipple piercing photos, the butt shots or the duck egg thing, or I will never hear the end of it from my parents.
I wish it were my house so I could give you guys permission to stay overnight. But unfortunately, it's my parents' house and they hate people even more than I do (which is saying something), so if you need a place to stay, the best I can do is recommend some hotels and motels in the area.

LMAO!! We love you. We would never mention those things :)
We're discussing it but I'm not sure if he's wanting to make the drive so soon after the last trip we took. I'm going to try to talk him into it. I want to meet you and LionO badly. I'm sure we could convince LionO to meet us too, yes?

The tank's been here for about a decade. I'm fairly sure it won't be going anywhere, so take your time. :)
I'm sure LionO would be amenable to meeting you two if you were to head this way, but you'd have to mention it to him to see what his schedule is like.
