Is it possible to be more empathic toward one person v.s. being empathic period? (if that makes any sense)

I certainly think so...

My husband, I discovered, after I'ld been married to him for a while takes a while to 'heat up' in a conversation.

I used to just talk and talk because he wasn't saying anything...I was trying to fill the silence.


I tried to hold back... bite my tounge.. say nothing... and nothing was said... time dragged on and on.. and then after about 10 minutes of silence... he started talking about what was really going on in his heart... he had to percolate his thoughts that long....and I started finally really understanding him

discovering such a thing requires listening and thinking about your interactions with a person... and tayloring your reponses to their needs and natural timing....
