My parents are letting me keep one of the puppies that the other two family dogs parented (Both Cairn Terriers). Right now we're just calling him Trey since he was the third one born. But I want to name him something with more meaning and I can't think of anything. I've been to the baby name websites and I see a lot of things that I like. I'll set my mind on something for a few minutes and then I realize that its just not right. I don't know what to doooooooo! lol. I love this little guy so much. He's my first dog (I've always had cats) and he's special to me so I want him to have a more meaningful name. I know he doesn't care but I do. Any suggestions?

Because dog names can be serious, silly, topical, and fun.
Try making a list of your favorites. And meditate or do some divinition (tarot, pendulum, etc) to narrow it down. Of it the list is short, try one out for a day see how you like the sound.
Also I've heard to avoid names with a strong "o" in them because when you say "no" to somthing naughty it can be confused. And you don't want the dog confused. So "Bosco" is out. And anything like that.
Any names that sound like obediance names sould not be used.
---We broke this "rule" when we renamed our dog, Coco. She was abused and we saved her, her previous people (they also ate her family!) named her Popo, so we wanted to keep the sounds she was used to.
But to counteract it we don't say "no" we say "et" in a gravely, deep tone for "no" and naughties.
So you can work around it.
"Your pup will learn to respond to the "sound" of its name. They won't actually know what their name means, but they will take their cue from how you say it (their name). Dogs have difficulty "learning" names that are more than two (2) syllables long (that's why all the basic obedience/training commands are short -- usually only two syllables (or sounds long)." You are my hero. You're always coming to my rescue and you never fail me. Haha. I didn't even know they had dog name sites. But I never really wanted to look because it seems that a lot of dog names are so sappy. lol. Know what I mean? Like Pooky, or Precious, Sugar stuff like that.

After you have him for awhile, and know his personality, you'll find a name!
