View Full Version : Making contact with a deity?

I've been reading a lot of the posts here, like the ones about having sex with deities, and others where people talk about what deity came to them and how many conversations they've had, etc.

I do believe the people who said it, but i'm kind of curious as to why i don't seem to have been contacted by many (or any) deities, i'm interested in a few different recon religions (like Sumerian, Kemetism, and Hellenic reconstructionism, etc), the Feri Tradition, Cochrane witchcraft and recently Alexandrian Wicca (and a bit of an interest in Theistic Satanism, like Diane Vera's), but i'd like to try and figure out what path to follow, i know that paths do change so i may end up on a different one, but i'd like to get a clue where i should go, at least for now.

It was the same with magic, even though i'm not that experienced, i wasn't sure where to start, until it suddenly 'clicked' with me and i knew i was doing something right, but i have no idea where to go concerning religion.

So any help you can give me would be great :)

BTW, i hope this made some sense.

Thanks :).

I'd say you could go a few ways with this.
One, forget everything you're interested in. Open yourself up to guidance from the Divine, see Who speaks to you, what direction you feel you should be going in. It could be something/Someone totally not on yuor list which calls you.

Two, pick the one you are the most interested in. It can be hard, but just pick one. Go with it for a while, practice it.. give it some time. Doesn't feel right? Try another. Feels like you've found your way, then good! You can always change later if you really feel called elsewhere.

Three. Start learning about all of them, start trying to make cotact with those Deities, see which tradition feels best. Could be hard trying to do everything at once though, but you'd know then what was right and what wasn't, maybe.

Four. Go eclectic.

You are not phsychic enough. Christianity destroys peoples spirituality. Do a technique to open your third eye. I'd reccomend Satanic power meditation to open your chakras. Its the fastest way. It can be applied to other non-satanic things as well.

You also did an invocation right?

if it is your intention to learn a little something about as many religious paths as possible then you are on the right track.
however, if you are looking to make a deeper connection to deity then you are all over the map, and probably need to focus your energies a little more.

put much more eloquently...

"No student will ever make any progress in spiritual development who flits from system to system; first using some New Thought affirmations, then some Yoga breathing exercises and meditation postures, and following these by an attempt at the mystical methods of prayer. Each of these systems has its value, but that value can only be realised if the system is carried out in its entirety. They are the callisthenics of consciousness, and aim at gradually developing the powers of the mind. The value does not lie in the prescribed exercises as ends in themselves, but in the powers that will be developed if they are persevered with. If we intend to take our occult studies seriously and make of them anything more than desultory light reading, we must choose our system and carry it out faithfully until we arrive, if not at its ultimate goal, at any rate at definite practical results and a permanent enhancement of consciousness. After this has been achieved we may, not without advantage, experiment with the methods that have been developed upon other Paths, and build up an eclectic technique and philosophy therefrom; but the student who sets out to be an eclectic before he has made himself an expert will never be anything more than a dabbler."

Thanks, i think i needed to see that quote, i'd like to learn about different religions, but i'd really like to commit myself to one, but i'm not sure where to start, BTW, thanks to all the others who replied, that also helped.

I've thought about just starting on one path and seeing where it takes me, but i always get a bit 'nervous' that it might 'ruin' me for other religions or something (that's probably not a very accurate way of explaining, but basically, i'm interested in Sumerian reconstructionism, but what happens if the Sumerian gods reject me for being on another path (as one Sumerian recon put it, if you look at how xenophobic the biblical Jew's were, they got it from the Sumerian's (Jew's originated in Sumeria/Iraq)), i also want to be respectful to the gods and the religions, themselves, like i don't just want to get into Hellenic reconstructionism, then just 'dump' it when something 'better' comes along (same with the other paths too).

Not sure if that last part makes much sense, but thanks again :).

My guess is you did see links below, but here's a suggestion:

http://history-world.org/sumeria.htm

A tarot that has some of the basic mythologies built into the deck:

http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/babylonian/

I actually have the deck and I like it. I believe it is readily available through amazon.com or abebooks.com for good prices. If the Tarot of Babylon works for you, you'd both learn tarot and more about the background cultures via an
art-mythological context.

Perhaps that might be a good start? I actually sometimes art books and mythology in context with art cards and similar art tarots to refresh my notes and thoughts...

Best regards,

Well, I can't help but think that I really doubt the god/desses would get annoyed with you for trying to find your way in this whole thing.
Also maybe if "something better comes along" it might be a healthy sign you are on the right path you just need a little nudge in a different direction for the time being. Maybe there is something to be learned along that path before you could really get much further on the one you're on.
And then hey, who knows, maybe you would end up back where you were before taking the detour.

Just a thought.
