Why perfectly healthy puppies will eat their own crap when there is a FULL bowl of puppy food in the room???

Could be behavioral, if you are potty training them or it could be that there are still undigested nutrients in the stool and the pup has decided to consume it again. You can add enzymes to the pups food to aid digestion and you can try making the poop less appealing (as if it's not already unappealing) with pungent spicy sauce. Good luck.

I've read that since cats diets are high in protein, their poop is attractive to dogs due to those extra nutrients.

wow, that one came out of no where! Sounds like something I might ask. But anyway...could it be that their digestive tracts aren't developed enough to break down the food, thus, making it worth....double dipping?

I call them kitty litter crunchies! Thankfully, our dogs stopped this behavior!

A new stray showed up at our house and hubby fell for her. She appears to be part shephard and part husky. She looks to be about 8mos old or so. She's quite skiddish and I suspect, from her behaviour, she's been abused. I've been letting her in and she heads straight for the kitty box every time....

I must admit, she's beautiful!! She has the coat colors of a shephard but those eyes are all husky.. We've named her Skylar for her sky blue eyes.

Poop eating is called coprophasia/coprophagia. If you add powdered meat tenderiser to skylar's food this will stop the eating. And since skylar is a litter box muncher as well, try sneaking it in on the cats too!! Vet recommended Mummy approved!
