Recently my mom found a great piece of bamboo and thought it would make a good wand. That got me thinking because I haven't heard much about bamboo for a wand material. I tried a Google search and a search on the forums here, but I just found an unanswered question from three years ago, and a few other threads I didn't look through completely.

So my question is, is bamboo a good material to use for a wand? Is it good to use for certain intents and purposes?

A wand can be made of any material you wish.

SOme of the properties of bamboo include protection, luck and hex-breaking. If that resonates with you or your mom, then go for it!

Scroll down to cultural aspects (second paragraph in that section:)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bamboo

In Chinese culture, the bamboo (zhú 竹), along with the plum blossom (méi 梅, the same tree as Japanese ume), orchids (lán 蘭), and chrysanthemum (jú 菊) are all held in high esteem and are collectively referred as "the four of great nobility" (四君子), with one representing each of the seasons. Each also symbolises a particular aspect of the junzi ("noble person") in Confucian ideology. The four plants are commonly mentioned together as "méi lán zhú jú" (梅蘭竹菊). The pine tree (松), the bamboo and the plum blossom are also admired for their perseverance under harsh conditions, and are together known as the "Three Friends in Winter"

In Japanese gardening culture, having a pine, apricot/plum, and bamboo triad in the garden is charming and old-fashioned for such associations (three friends of winter).

I made my first chakra wand by placing gemstones on unbroken bamboo chopsticks and binding them together with transparent netting and glue. It's a homemade bamboo 'chakra' wand and just good for visualizing healthy connection in meditative ways...I'm actually using it in yoga-style stretching and sitting, trying to stretch and relax the different muscle areas or just reminding myself to sit up straight!

Hope the ideas are helpful, if a bit goofy.

I have a bamboo staff that I've used for protection and magical use for some long years now. So, I am sure a wand would be just as powerful. Enjoy!
