That will certainly fan the flames of conspiracy regarding "no real moon landing took place".

How can they lose it, I mean wouldn't it be in the same place they left it 40years ago?
I bet that some college intern was watching it out of boredom and just missed placed it.

Can't they just shoot another one? :p

I don't think there was a landing. From what I've seen/read it seems iffy. Who knows though.

LOL they were talking about this on the radio show I listen to in the morning, and it was hilarious. The DJ said, "Wow, conspiracy theorists are probably going NUTS about now."
Seriously, how DO you lose it?! It's a freaking TAPE of the MOON LANDING. -____-;;
Okay. I confess. I taped over it with soft-core porn. *hangs head in shame*

You know, you'd think they'd at least make an extra copy.

Exactly. Some sort of archives somewhere or something.

Well, it was sent to the National Archives.
Pretty sad when the Archives loses the archives.

yeah, it's probably just on the wrong shelf in a warehouse somewhere. Or someone's kid brought it in for show and tell and traded it for a cookie at lunch.
I hope they find it. I'm interested in seeing what they plan on doing with the digital restoration and all.

It will strengthen my Dad's theory that the moon landing was not quite above board. He's told me for years and years that the whole thing was a hoax.-- I trust my Dad's opinions and theories and will agree with him.

Either they didn't make it all the way, and had to return, or they didn't go at all. Not sure if subsequent missions made it.
Something tells me that they just didn't quite have enough technology to do it. That, and the arguments that I've heard were reasonable ones.

My Dad says they may be looking in the wrong place...They're looking at Goddard Space Center; it may actually be at Johnson Space Center. From 1982 - 1987 there was a project to make copies of film from NASA space missions and a lot of the material was stored at Johnson Space Center.

I think we really did go to the moon but I'm not sure that the details of that are totally accurate. Maybe the people who we've been told went there really didn't and the ones that did met some unfortunate fate. Or they found something they shouldn't have. Maybe ET really does have a base on the dark side of the moon? Maybe cosmic radition cooked them in their suites? No civilian (except maybe nasa) controls the information anyways so there is little anybody could do to really proove we landed or there was any kind of conspircy unless somebody confesses (which a project like this would include many people... many loose ends to snitch) or we actually go back to the moon and proove it.
I think three things are likely to be true: 1) NASA really did land on the moon and there is no conspiricy, they just made an honest mistake and lost the original tapes. (which its pretty common for any beauracratic agency to loose things). 2) Some tech or person who had access to the tapes wanted to cause a stir, rattle a few cages and revive the theory swipped the tapes. Or, 3) There really is a conspiricy (who knows what really happened) and NASA realized that something in the tapes prooved the landing fake and "disappeared" the evidence. Which if this is true I'm sure they've been destroyed.
Another idea is that somebody stole the tapes to sell on Ebay or to some crazy collector.

No, the tapes are there-- they may just be looking in the wrong place.

everyone knows that the members of pink floyd were the first people to land on the moon, and they even went to the dark side. The gov't just didn't want it known that a bunch of acid heads beat the egg heads to the moon so they covered it up.

I think the moon is really made of cheese, and the American government is covering it all up, so it can make a fortune selling Cheetos to third world countries. :p

I'm still waiting for even one shred of vaguely credible evidence that the moon landings - any of them - were a hoax.
I expect I'll still be waiting for the remainder of my natural lifespan, of course.

Everyone knows that the earth is flat and the moon is just a big piece of cheese. How else can those mice eat it all up every month?
I do feel pity for the NASA, though. Archiving is a science all by itself.

Tell me about it; I spent most of 2004-2005 archive-diving. Ow.

Yes!!!! That's what I've been waiting for someone to say. It's about time.
I've been sitting on my tongue the whole time I've been reading this thread and now I'm going to let myself go... First, my Dad has been retired for several years, but the bulk of his career was spent with NASA at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. My Dad was one of the people working on the project I mentioned on this thread in a previous post.
From 1982 till 1987 NASA undertook a huge project to make copies of film from their space missions including the Gemini and the Apollo programs. A lot of this material was stored at the Johnson Space Center and my Dad still remembers the building numbers where these tapes were stored. That's why Dad thinks that the tapes are not at Goddard, but that they may be at Johnson.
As for the moon landing being a hoax...It was not. The dirt that was brought back could not have originated on earth because it was exposed to too much solar radiation. Furthermore, it contained small glass spheres due to meteoric impact. Also, the astronauts placed reflectors on the surface of the moon. They reflect laser beams off the reflectors to judge the distance of the moon from the earth at any given time.
A strange fact also is that there's a high rate of cataracts among astronauts, including those that went to the moon due to radiation exposure. The astronauts that came back from the moon were affected healthwise by long term exposure to low gravitational fields.
Boy, did it feel good to get that off my chest!:)
