Mysterious Creature May Be Subject of Longtime Local Legend

TURNER, Maine (Aug. 17) - Residents are wondering if an animal found dead over the weekend may be the mysterious creature that has mauled dogs, frightened residents and been the subject of local legend for half a generation....

It was charcoal gray, weighed between 40 and 50 pounds and had a bushy tail, a short snout, short ears and curled fangs hanging over its lips, he said. It looked like "something out of a Stephen King story."

There's a picture on the link. It looks like a canine for certain, maybe a hybrid; but 'mutant' might be pushing it.

I thought the same thing myself. That wolf thing that the Indian kid fights in the swamps or something (been awhile since I've actually seen it).

Seriously, it probably is some wolf-dog hybrid of some sort.

I read somewhere that it could be an akita hybrid. After seeing a picture of an akita, this seems like a strong possibility.
