OK, I ventured out yesterday and found some nifty rocks (ok, nifty to me :) )
I think they are fairly common but I would like to know what they are. (I did try looking them up and got confused :( ) Sorry the pictures aren't better but cheap camera. *The squares are 6cm The only acid I had was Hydrolochloric and none of the rocks foamed, I also used wink... no changes. None seem to be magnetic.

This is the first one, it's a little lighter than it looks. It's glossy and when I scratched it with a nail the rock won! It seems to have water wear, see the hole. There also appears to have 'cubes'

RIGHT... blackish red? very porous, bits of other rock, scratches
Center... red lots of larger (3mm) square crystals, cleaves cubed (light weight?)

Hope you can help :) :boing:

All I can tell is that you've got a variety of metamorphic, sedimentary and igneous rock there... nothing strikes me as a particular semi-precious. Maybe do some research on the rock/soil types that are native or common to the area you found them, that might help you identify them.

There's a sticky thread in this forum for such things. Why don`t you repost it there. You might get better results.ok.
