I quickly fell asleep and in my dream a large black cat out of no where was beneith me and hissed and jumped for my face.. I jumped up off the pillow [as if to get away from the cat's jump] and woke my partner. Whats this mean?

I have no interpretive dream skills, however, when I read your post, I just had to wonder if you are working on a new part of your path that is maybe a little scary to you, and the cat jumping at you is a manifestation of that fear?

Or not. :)

I think the significance depends on your view of cats: If you are a cat person then it might represent something normally familiar and benign, that suddenly 'turns on you.'
If you dislike or fear cats, then one jumping out at you may be a sign of something that has you scared - it's on your mind but you keep pushing it down to get rid of it...

I just have a feeling,

When a cat jumps or hisses at you in real life (although admitedly they probably wouldn't go for your face) they would be doing it to draw your attention to them, like don't step on me or something.
I think the intensity of the behaviour was probably exagerated to call your attention to it in a major way.

You could draw similarities between this cat and the card the fool in tarot, as his dog nips and pulls at him to draw him away from the perilous cliffside.

I'd say the cat was a warning, an advisory to pay attention and 'watch where you're stepping' so to speak. At least for a while, so be cautious.

Just my feeling though.

I hope all is well for you and yours, and any symbols or meaning you're supposed to take from this dream becomes clear to you.

Monster.

Thank you for all your interpertations. It was scary how the dream affected the way my body reacted in real life.

cats also represent female (well, usually. big cats, lions, tigers, etc are an exception).

being that it was also black, it could be a sign of a woman you know who doesnt like you or you dont get along with is planning on making some kind of an attack on you. if thats the case, its up to you to keep an eye out for what kind of an "attack" it is.

I quickly fell asleep and in my dream a large black cat out of no where was beneith me and hissed and jumped for my face.. I jumped up off the pillow [as if to get away from the cat's jump] and woke my partner. Whats this mean? I always find cats to be very spiritual creatures. This particular black cat might be trying to stress something important, knowledge or wisdom of some kind (which could be from a person you know, a symbol you saw, or something u read, which has importance in your life). But you might be afriad to believe this advice/information, and/or pursue whatever it is.

So, perhaps the cat is telling you to trust yourself in something?

I don't have an answer but thought I would tell of a dream that I had a few weeks ago.

I was in the other side of my kitchen (kind of a eating area) and my husband was asleep in the bedroom down the hall, our orange tiger cat came in the other door of the kitchen and was making paw prints on the kitchen floor in blood! My first thought in my dream was that he attacked my husband in his sleep and really hurt him....then I woke up.

The only thing I have figured out is that since our cat had been attacking me every now and then I must be afraid that he might really do some harm to us one of these days. The sub consious is a strange thing sometimes.

I sounds like a threshold dream, when one is going in or out of the dream world (the astral, if you'd like) one tends to see startling things. Often, as I start to drop off to sleep, I dream I am literally falling, jerk my legs and wake myself up. In Astral Projection, Oliver Fox speaks of sometimes seeing hideous monsters at the "lower" levels. Sylvia Browne blames "hagging" on astral catalepsy, a glitch getting back into your body just prior to waking. In any case, the transition from waking to sleep or vice versa can be very strange and often uncomfortable, but does not carry the profound messages of a deeper dream. I would not attach a great deal of importance to this one.
