My sister's boyfriend moved into our back house recently, and brought along his snakes. he has 2 red tail boas, and i think 4 corn snakes. He's been wanting a burmese python for a long time, but hasn't had the opportunity to get one. my sister was checking the pennysaver ads online (we found a dog a few weeks ago, and are trying to locate its owners) and came across an ad for a baby burmese python for $35. so her bf called, and this guy apparantly has a whole bunch of them that he needs to get rid of. he offered to throw in a tank for just $30 more. they are on their way over to get one right now. its gonna be so cool, i love snakes, i wish i could have one (my dad is a repti-phobe. he doesn't even know about the snakes that are already here). i can't wait until they get back with the new slither! anyways, i just thought i'd share, this is pretty darn cool...

I love Burmese pythons! I have always wanted one, but never had the space to keep one properly. They get to be about 15 to 20 feet long and weigh over 100 lbs. They can also live to be in their 20's. Best of luck to him though they are awesome critters. :)

yeah, they are quite a commitment... i don't think i could ever do it myself, but he loves his snakes, and has looked into these guys before. my sister called a little while ago, they are on their way home. i think she said the snake was a month old, female, and very friendly. she said the guy had close to 30 of them, but he worked with all of them so they are all tame. she recently shed, so her colors are vibrant, i think my sister said she has eaten 4 times, but i'm not entirely sure. her boyfriend was absolutely giddy when she called, i could hear him in the background, it was really funny. now they have to figure out how to sneak it in. my parents are home, and my mom probably won't care, and my dad is preoccupied with football, so i don't think its gonna be a huge problem, but they have a 60 gallon tank to bring through the house, as well, which might be a bit difficult, lol. i can't wait to see her! she sounds sweet. i wish i could have one, but i can't commit to a snake that big, so i'm behaving myself.

they finally got back, my sister brought the snake through the house in her purse, lol. they left the big tank in the car for the night, so they can bring it in later when there aren't as many people around. They named the snake Baby, she's so sweet. she feels nice and soft, but is pretty strong. she's 6 weeks old. i think there were 50 or so in her clutch. my sister's bf is considering going back for another female so they can keep each other company. i am considering "sponsoring" one, meaning financially taking care of its food, and playing with it, and naming it, but having it live with the others until i can move out and take it with me... i'd like to get a male,as they are generally smaller... but i probably shouldn't... it would just be so cool... i played with some of the other snakes, too. i love them so much, i really want one of my own. my mom loves snakes, but she knows we can't have them as long as my dad is around, because he hates reptiles. oh well, i'm gonna see if i can take some pictures of Baby tomorrow, to post here. she's so cute!!!

I love snakes. And people who have the devotion to care for them are cool. Its all great, but...
If by chance your dad finds out and the BF gets the boot...cant complain. Its obvious with all the sneaking that this is definitely breaking some rules, and a tad disrespectful. The welfare of the animals should be thought about before breaking rules and resorting to sneaking. Not a good way to gain anyone's trust.
I hope if this ever back fires, the snakes don't end up paying any price.

Loving an animal also means providing good care without having to hide and sneak, IMO.
I have seen so many people rent places that dont allow a certain or any pets. Then they sneak, get caught and cry about it. I hope that doesnt end up being the situation here.

I hope it all works out. Maybe the BF could work at finding a place were the snakes don't have to be sneaked in? Or maybe be honest with the parents?

Being the BF, this sure is not a good way to score brownie points with the father.

I am really happy to see such a love for snakes, just would be nicer if there wasn't deception going on with it all.

I'm a mom, it shows. :)

My husband was terrified of snakes too. We broke him in with baby corn snakes and worked our way up. He's OK with them now. :)

Good Luck to all the snake lovers in the house... and the snakes!

well, my sister and her bf are looking for a place to move out, anyways. honestly, what my dad doesn't know, can't hurt him. it isn't at all likely that he will find out, our "back house" is really a house that was built for my sister and me when we were kids, its pretty small, you have to duck to get through the door. the snakes are in the upstairs part, so even if my dad popped his head in, they are out of sight. anyways, i decided that i'm not going to get one, it would be purely irresponsible, so i'll wait until i have a place of my own, and then i'll start with something small like a corn snake. thanks for the input guys, they are out buying food for the snakes right now, so i probably won't be handling them today, i don't want them to think my fingers are food!

Ball pythons are always a great starter snake, not large in size and would rather curl up than bite.

But I do Hope all goes well, Snakes are the best. I so want a burmese some day.
