if a spell calls for a certain essential oil, and you use an herbal oil (as in, an essential oil mixed with a base oil) or a tincture instead, will it work? will it be less effective?

I think you can use whatever oil you want as long as it corresponds and makes sense to you. That's just my opinion. :)

Well, I think using a similar medium would be ok. But using a rosewater instead of rose oil or rose oil in a carrier might hinder your spell work. Mainly because the properties of water is different from oil. Such as, are you using it to annoint a candle? Oil would burn well, but not water. Tinctures are usually made from alcohol and is highly flamable. Magically, the energies are the same but the medium is different & that could affect your work.
