Oooooh, I bought one of those Scunci steamers last night, the kind that looks like a little kettle with a nozzle on it that shoots a highly pressurized jet of steam to clean surfaces with.....and it's great!!!!! I cleaned all the little crevices on my microwave and it was awesome! I also used it to sterilize my cutting boards. I'm so impressed that something from an infomercial works (even though I bought it in a store)!!!

No kidding - it really works? I've seen it a few times on tv and I saw it once in the mall; I was always a bit leery of it. Maybe I'll go check it out again and get one, I could use it for sure.

I got one too (from Wal Mart), and I was pleasantly surprised myself!

I'd like to know how it works on grout... We have a vintage house and the tiles in the kitchen and shower are 60 years old. Tough to clean and scrub sometimes.

I haven't taken it upstairs to the bathroom, yet. I just focused on the kitchen last night. It only holds 11 ounces of water, but it lasted a surprisingly long time. I'll let you know how the bathroom works out - our tub is very old and yucky, so we'll see if it puts a dent in it.

Do you get a lot of 'splash back'?
Can I ask how much one of those costs?
Thanks for sharing.

This site prices it at 59.95 + S&H, and I got mine from Wal Mart for about that amount. I think it was 60.00 something.

Hmm, wonder if the price will go down if I wait a few more months?

I just added this to our bridal registry at Bed, Bath and Beyond ;)

mine isn't a Scunci steamer, but I got one very similar from Home Depot, and it works great! Grout is a wonderful thing for it to clean! Saves hours of scrubbing.

We were at Walgreens getting a couple of scripts filled and had time to browse while waiting... I noticed a Scunci steamer for only $29. I couldn't remember what I read the price was at WalMart. I may go back and get it.

Very minimal splash back, nothing I couldn't wipe away with a paper towel. I got mine from Big Lots - mine had a little bonus pack on it for doing floors, so it was $30. The one without the bonus pack was $25. For the latter price, you get all the extensions/scrubbers, a storage back to keep everything in and a little measurement cup with funnel for filling the unit.

Thanks for answering my questions. It sounds like it's mostly steam - not a stream of hot water? Hmmm, it's not that far to the BigLots, might have to go there tomorrow or Friday.

Oh no, it's pure steam that comes out! Very cool....by splash back, I thought you meant what bit of water formed once it hit a surface you were cleaning.

Yippee yippee! Less time scrubbing means more time for vino!
HAIL STEAMER :fpraise:

Yeah, that is what I meant by splash back. Seems like the steam might scald your hand a bit when you're cleaning a space like a microwave though.

well, you spray the steam into the microwave and then wipe it out. I don't recommend putting your hand directly into the path of the steam...you could get a nasty burn. It cools very quickly, and no scrubbing. Just wipe with a paper towel, cloth or sponge. :)

So I thought about it, and it would take about a gallon of gas to drive into the city to the nearest BigLots and with gas almost $3 a gallon that would add about $3 to the price of the steamer. Since the tax base is lower here in my town (just over the county line) I decided to save the gas and the extra tax charge and I went to Walgreens just down the street and bought one there, spending about the same money even though it cost more at Walgreens.
All the equipment is there... sorta. There are 2 copper cleaning brushes and 3 nylon ones instead of the 4/1 ratio listed in the booklet. Don't know how much I'll use any of the brushes so that's no biggie. The regular nozzle goes in and comes out just fine, but the nozzle on the hose will not go all the way in and turn to lock in position. I know there's an infomercial for this product but I've never watched the whole thing so I don't know what the hose is used for - or any of the attachments really.
But I just used it to clean my sink (WOW), stove, fridge, and microwave (which wasn't that dirty but hey there was still water in the reservoir). I've got it heating in my bathroom now. But I really bought it to take to work with me, I clean a beauty salon and the hairspray gets really sticky and ick-y on the chairs. I've been mixing 409 and water in a spray bottle and spraying the chairs then letting them sit for a few minutes and that works really well. But if I can get away from using the chemicals in 409 I think my fibromyalgia won't be as bad when I get done working.
Oh, and since I haven't see the infomercial, how does this thing work on floors?

It works on any surface you would normally wash, so I would think it would work well on floors, especially spot areas.

Lunacie's a cleaning machine! You GO girl!
Yes, I'm hearing more about these things as they work really well but are tedious. The best way to use would be to use the steamer then be dilligent about maintaining the areas. For me, it's that damn grout in our shower. Hubby-to-be walks around barefoot outside, and our shower tiles are hard to keep clean cause they're so old.
Looks like this is going to do the trick!

I don't know if there is a Bed, Bath and Beyond store near any of you that want to purchase one of these or not, but that's where we got ours...it was less than the $59.99 plus tax on sale and we didn't have to pay shipping either.....we love ours...just wish it held a little bit more water!

Ya, unfortunately the porcelain of my tub is so old, the steamer did nothing for the stains. Same for the grout. It's just been there too long, le sigh. I wish I could redo that bathroom.

I'm still waiting to hear anything negative from my boss... I took The Steamer to work on Sunday and used it to clean the gunky old hair spray from the work stations and chairs instead of using that awful 409 chemical stuff the boss wants me to use. Arghhh!!! I was so tired of coming home stinking like that crap. Anyway I thought The Steamer did a good job on the gunk and didn't really take any longer to use or any more effort. Next week I try it on the large glass mirrors.

Did yours come with the little attachment that's flat and you put a little cloth over it to do glass? I have that, but haven't tried it out yet. I'm also considering using the wire scrubbers (made for cleaning outdoor grills) on the old porcelain of my bathtub, lol. If nothing else, it will take off the soapscum!

Have you tried Comet cleanser on the bathtub stains? If that doesn't work, a mild bleach to water solution may help.
Wish I knew what took the stains off plastic tubs in a mobile home.

I have tried everything... Will still try the steamer though.
You should try some Barkeeper's Friend cleanser for your plastic. I use it on everything, works great, just not super on 60-year old, porous tile and grout, LOL...

Professional Strength Vani-Sol worked for mine. My bathroom is 60 years old. Most of the time it's sold in bulk for Hospital,School, and other commercial uses. But it is possible to purchase just what you need in a couple of sites online.
It is made with a high acid content, however, all I needed were rubber gloves. I didn't even have to touch the stuff itself. It removed every single stain including rust that had been there for years. One good thing about it, it had NO odor! I was happy about that, since some cleansers/cleaners have nearly made me pass out!
I am interested in that Steamer though, just to use it for normal cleaning. I have seen them as low as 30.00 US dollars in some of the stores, haven't gotten around to buying one yet.
Hope this helps,
Merry

I just found an old, wire brush (like a toothbrush) with stiff bristles, and it WORKED!!! WHEEEE, YAY!
Thanks for the tip :)

I'm sure it's an excellent product, but you'd think they'd have found a better name for it!
Every time I've seen this thread, my mind fills up with thoughts of skanky, shonky, shunky skunks!

It's a funny name for sure. I'm used to seeing the Scunci name on hair products (clips, headbands, brushes).
I used my Scunci steamer for the second time at work today (cleaning a beauty salon). It's not any faster or easier than mixing a bucket of 409 cleanser and water and wiping everything down, but I don't come home smelling like 409 - and still smell like 409 after taking a shower and washing my hair.
I'm still using the floor cleaner to mop the floors, but I use vinegar/water to clean the mirrors and glass shelves, and I'm happy that I've eliminated one chemical from my cleaning routine. Chemicals for cleaning make me sick.
