Personally, I don't care about all the intellectual mumbo jumbo about this decision. To me, and no, I'm not a scientist and it doesn't matter, Pluto will always be a planet in our solar system; as long as it's a celestial body orbiting our sun, has mass and poles and a gravitational influence on any surroundings, it's a planet. So what they gonna do at the planetariums? put masking tape over the pluto image and pretend it's not there? Seems you got some folk out there who don't make any significant contributions to science, so they gotta go and politicize, quantify and qualify the planets, redefine the term and to make sure they got the whole world's attention, they go and terminate one of our beloved planets. Because why - the political reasons I state notwithstanding - because it is the outer most, has an eliptical orbit that crosses Neptune's or Uranous's I forget which one. Why didn't Mercury get the boot? Because, it's the first body in the planetary line up and the so called committee would loose it's credibility, but to me it has already. They're aren't done, watch and see what else they redefine and reclassify - the definition of 'star' of which our sun will not be one; the definition of 'life-sustaining' of which our earth is but will Mars; it has water and bacteria? The definition of 'moon', ours is among the largest but it's very big for a moon, so isn't it a 'dwarf planet' now?
{sigh}

It's all semantics. Maybe it's all about selling new revisions of old astronomy books.
